Rahul Gandhi dares PM Narendra Modi to 'stop hiding' and face Parliament on Rafale

New Delhi, Nov 22 (Zee News): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold the Winter Session of Parliament and answer questions related to the Rafale deal.

"The truth does not go away because you hide from it. Modi ji, stop hiding and open the Parliament so the truth of what you did on Rafale can be heard by the nation,(sic)" he tweeted.

He has been repeatedly attacking the government over the Rafale deal with France asking why the contract was awarded to a company with "no defence experience".

The Congress has alleged that the cost of each aircraft as per the deal is much more than what its government had finalised with France in 2012.

Repeatedly accusing the Modi government of sabotaging the Winter Session, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had also recently hit out at the Prime Minister claiming that he "lacks the courage to face Parliament."

However, the BJP has defended itself saying that this is not for the first time that the session is delayed and this has happened in the past by the UPA government too.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked Rahul Gandhi and Congress over this "sudden dedication towards Parliament." He said: "I'm surprised with the dedication that the Congress is showing towards Parliament. We want to ask Congress that for how long does Rahul Gandhi even attend the session."

"Whenever there was a discussion on demonetisation and the moment Congress realised we are showing facts which made Congress uncomfortable, they walked out of Parliament," Ravi Shankar added.

The winter session is traditionally convened in the third week of November and lasts till the third week of December.

As per my understanding , in 2012 France company refused to certify components manufactured by HAL. That is because France did not want to take risk of aircraft failures.

Now current deal is jets manufactured in France and technology transfer through Indian company. Aircraft are more customized than UPA agreement. So more price.

If pappu can manufacturer planes and supply them to air force government can give future deals to pappu 😁

Before you make your 'understanding' public just see what the BJP MP Harvard prof Dr Subramanian Swamy feels about Rafale as reported in The Hindu dated April 11, 2015 :
“If the Prime Minister for some other ‘compulsion’ decides to go ahead with the deal, I will have no option but to approach the court with a PIL plea to set it aside,” he said in a statement.
The performance of the French jet “turned out to be worst of all the aircraft” in Libya and Egypt, the BJP leader added.
According to Dr. Swamy, two major issues with Rafales “which would embarrass the BJP government” are that they are “less fuel-efficient” and “no other country has agreed to buy them.” Dr. Swamy said that some countries had cancelled contracts after signing MoU with Dassault. “It is a fact that Dassault will go bankrupt if no country buys the Rafale. If we want to oblige the French, it is better to buy Dassault itself rather than their planes as it will be more beneficial.”

    geoffrey,

Last time I checked, Subramanian Swamy is not an expert on Jet Fighter by any means. Swamy has shown a typical Indian mentality by stating ''less fuel-efficient''. He also claims the rafale to be worse than any other fighter.... which really makes me doubt his claims.

India wants to buy a fighter to perform a particular role. As per the tests carried out for performing the particular role, Rafale won the Indian MRCA competition.

Just being a Harvard professor does not make whatever he says true.

Strange that you people have double standards and blame a Govt Subsidiary like HAL with more than 75 years of experience of aircraft developments.
where goes your Nationalism now ??

Why not make in India now with a govt company than a Private (Reliance ) with NIL experience ,

From 75 years why HAL didn't build single aircraft like F16?

To build aircraft they need talented engineers and reservation quota etc doesn't work..?

    Rampaa,

Buliding a Fighter jet is not like building a car or a truck. It requires years of experience and experts. A fighter jet has to perform. Not just perform, but also match with the best in the world.

Eg: No matter what talent you have, you cant expect any indian car company to make a car equal to or better than a car like Mercedes, BMW or Lexus. They may try to do it but still, they may not be able to match it. Same thing applies to the fighter jets... only difference is that you may not be able to sell your indian made car but you could very well lose a war with inferior jet.

Our indian made tejas took 30 years to get from drawing board to the air. In the same time american f-16 & f-18 have established themselves as the best fighters in the world. And they are due to be replaced by f-35. So its better to buy existing jets rather then building our own.
