Udupi, Oct 17: Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidhara Okkoota (R) Dakshina Kannada and Udupi unit are all set to provide a platform for budding singers, especially youngsters to showcase their singing talent at ‘Voice of Udupi Season-5'.

The audition for singing reality show, presented by Namma Mobile Udupi, will be held at Lions Bhavana, Brahmagiri Circle, Udupi on October 21. It will start sharp at 9 am and will close before 2 pm.

The contestants should register their name before October 20. If anyone fails to register before the due date, they can register their names at the venue of the auditions before 9 am on October 21.

New challenge for participants

The audition will be held for below and above 15 year-age group. In the earlier seasons, the competition used to take place in two rounds. But for a change, there will be four rounds this year. The regular auditions, studio round, classical round and the grand finale.

Nearly 400 participants are expected to take part in the audition. As many as 40 participants will be selected in the audition round (20 participants each from the below and above 15 year-age groups.) Twenty participants will be shortlisted for the studio round (10 each from the both age groups).

The next round will be the classical music round. The interesting twist in this round is that out of 20 participants, 16 will be shortlisted (8 contestants from both age groups). Out of the 16, as many as 10 talented singers will get the opportunity to enter the grand finale. Top five finalists will be selected from each age group.

Another interesting announcement is that the winner of the 'Voice of Udupi, Season-5' will get an opportunity to perform as a playback singer in upcoming Tulu movie 'Yekkur'.

The final round will include a live singing contest. A team of professional and international background music players from Bengaluru, invited for this show will provide the background instrumental music.

The event is expected to be thrilling and exciting for all the contestants as well as the audience.

Popular judges

Popular singers Yashwanth Acharya and Shashikiran Chennagiri will grace the occasion as judges.

Known for his versatile singing and Kannada music direction, Yashwanth Acharya from Udupi will guide the contestants. Yashwanth has been recognized at the national level and has received many awards for his solo singing.


Yashwanth Udupi

Known as Yashwanth Udupi, he has sung numerous songs as a playback singer. He has composed music for movies as well. He has been trained in classical music. Yashwanth has been part of many singing reality shows as contestant. He was the winner of ‘Yede Thumbi Haaduvenu’ season 2. He is presently serving as a Sanskrit teacher at Jain College in Moodbidri. He even teaches classical music to hundreds of students.


Shashikiran Chennagiri

Another amazing playback singer Shashikiran Chennagiri will also grace the occasion.

The winners of the show will be given attractive trophy titled ‘Voice of Udupi season 5’ along with cash prizes.

Internationally acclaimed multilingual lyricist Jayanth Kaykini, Ajay Warrior and Yashwanth will be present as judges for the final round.

Producing talents

The unique singing reality show ‘Voice of Udupi’ started in 2013. The first four seasons were conducted in the city of Udupi and received great response from public. There were 80-100 contestants who took part in two live music shows.

In season-4, the show was extended to native cities namely Karkala, Kundapur and Udupi as well. Nearly 350 singers have taken part in the singing competition so far. This platform has nurtured many budding talent.

One of the participants of season-2, Abhishek Kodancha is shining in the film industry and Eira Acharya of Season-3 is acting in Kannada serials.

There will be no entrance fee for music lovers in season-5. The event is expected to be a great singing competition and provide entertainment to the audience.

Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidhara Okkoota (R) Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are also celebrating their tenth year anniversary. This is a group of 400 professional musicians and singing artistes. The Okkoota provides financial assistance to poor students every year through 'Vidya Nidhi' scheme.

It also extends medical help to Okkoota members during emergency and is engaged in social activities.

Bhaskar Acharya is the president and Naveen Chandra Koppa is the secretary of KSKO.
