New Delhi: Singer Aditya Narayan misbehaved, abused staff at Raipur airport - IndiGo

Raipur/New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI): Bollywood singer Udit Narayan's son Aditya Narayan allegedly got into an argument with IndiGo ground staff and abused them at Raipur airport after he was asked to cough up Rs 13,000 for excess baggage, according to the airline.

Aditya Narayan, who is a singer, actor and TV host, was booked on a flight from Raipur to Mumbai on Sunday morning. At the time of check-in at the airport he was asked to pay for extra baggage weighing 40 kg, which led to a heated argument between him and IndiGo ground staff, the airline said in a statement.

"(If) you are going to offload me, I will see you in Mumbai...phir dekh lenge (then we will see)," the singer can be heard threatening a duty manager of the airline in a video being played by TV channels.

The airline said that Narayan also used "unparliamentary" language while arguing with a woman staff member.

"Aditya Narayan, travelling with a group of 5 people, was carrying excess baggage of 40 kg. The amount to be paid for the carriage of excess baggage came to Rs 13,000," said the IndiGo statement.

"He refused to pay this amount to the female check-in staff member and said that he will not pay more than Rs 10,000 for the excess baggage and also used unparliamentary language with the female staff member," it said.

The airline added that the singer used "abusive words" against its duty manager.

However, Narayan was later issued a boarding pass after he apologised to the ground staff. The airline did not say whether he paid the excess baggage fee or not.

"We at IndiGo can at no point compromise the dignity of our staff members or passengers," the airline statement said.

Narayan did not reply despite repeated attempts to contact him. IndiGo allows passengers to carry check-in baggage weighing up to 15 kg free of cost. A maximum of seven kg per person is allowed as cabin baggage.

Over and above the weight limit laid down down by the airline, customers have to pay Rs 300 per kg as excess baggage, according to the IndiGo website.

In June, IndiGo had barred TDP MP Diwakar Reddy from flying with it after he allegedly entered into a verbal spat with the ground staff and threw a printer kept at the airline's counter. He had been denied boarding because he reported late for his flight.

In a show of solidarity, IndiGo and other domestic carriers also banned Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad from flying after he hit an Air India staff "25 times" with a slipper.

Last month, in a first, the government framed rules for a no-fly list of unruly passengers.
According to the rules, passengers can be banned from flying for three months to an indefinite period for an act of disruptive behaviour.

Sometimes the staff behaves rudely when they see a celebrity For a 5 minutes fame. It goes unnoticed. Rs 3000/ is nothing but these staff always behaves badly. Except the CRPF everyone at the airport is rude. Thanks to the celebrities who have the guts to speak out then the common man who takes all the insults from check in till the flight departure. Well done celebrities.

I fully agree with Steven Menezes. Why these celebraties are given somuch importanace. All they
are doing is earning their living- they are not doing any social service . I heard the abusive language
of Aditya Narayan on TV- it was very uncivilized behaviour. How cheap to use such language. It is ok to argue if one feels that there's unjustified charges but the language should be clean(mind the language).
Why the people waste their time to see these celebraties sometimes waiting for hours to have a glimpse of them- the same time can be used for some better purpose.

I have experienced same type of excess fees being charged by Indigo airlines .The worst part is the duty manager just said I will make no show and whatever money you already paid is gone .
Here also just see the maths allowed weight of baggage is 15 kg + 7 Kg hand carry means total 22 Kg allowed .He was carrying 40 kg means excess is 40-22 =18 kg .If the excess luggage charge is Rs 300 per kg then net payable amount will be 18x 300 Rs =Rs 5400 only .How come Indigo charge Rs 13000 .
Indigo s pricing policy is not transparent at all
However I dont support Aditya Narayan for his foul language .But Indigo staffs pricing strategy is not good

    Dear Kamath,

As I understood from the news, the excess baggage itself was over 40Kg and that's how Rs.13,000/= is worked out.

Dear Dr. Kamath, please read once again that Aditya was going along with the 5 people and total excess baggage is 40Kg. That means each person will be allowed to carry 7 Kgs of cabin luggage, which will not be counted along with 15 Kgs(check in luggage). Also means every kgs above 15 kgs will be counted as excess luggage. what they want to say here is that group of 5 people had excess baggage of 40 Kgs. Hence they must be having 15x5 +40 Kgs apart from 7 kgs each as cabin baggage.

No doubt, this behavior puts him down and he need to control his temper. However, such type of behavior we see it not only from VVIP but from every person. People get triped sometimes and over react. Unconditional apology is required. But this issue doesn't merit national importance. Why media gives so much importance in national channels on this issue? Its bit surprising that the media which is against VVIP culture is giving undue importance to the occasional negative behavior of celebrates and treating them as VVIP. Just because someone sent a video recording, media makes it big incident. Common Media....lots of good things happening around...celebrate it in your channels.

These so called celebrities earn a living on common man's money, who spend time watching or listening to them, these celebrities are treated like "Rags" by the elite rich making them dance or perform whenever and whatever time it pleases them.
These people take out their frustration on people who serve them, in public places like airports and hotels.
They are actually sad people, who want to show that their money and influence is the only way to show their domination.
Don't understand why people stand for hours to have a glimpse of them or even touch them.
I am sure this "brat" like his kind, his society type will start a NGO to prove his good heart and achieve karma

This kind of attitude by Aditya Narayan was totally unacceptable. Actually, he showed his cheap sense of humor by abusing and misbehaving with the female staff and others of IndiGo Air just for Rs. 3000 for the excess baggage. It is unbelievable. They should have used the same yardstick used for other rude passengers.

Good behavior begins at home. Her must have seen his parents behave so with staff or workers. If you treat all humans with respect then you will not misbehave. We have been given the gift of speech and intelligence and we need to put across our viewpoints. Not try to browbeat the staff with abuse.
