Bengaluru: Sanatan Sanstha says no role in Gauri murder, seeks fair probe

Bengaluru, Sep 22 (DHNS): Sanatan Sanstha, a right-wing Hindutva organisation, on Thursday objected to efforts to link it with journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Goa-based Sanstha’s spokesperson Ramesh Shinde said they travelled from Maharashtra to clarify that they have no role in the murder.

“We strongly condemn the murder and want the SIT to conduct a free and fair investigation. We condemn the efforts to link Sanatan Sanstha to Gauri’s murder and seek the SIT not to work under any political pressure,” Hindu Janajagruti Samiti national spokesperson, Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, said.

“We didn’t even know Gauri though her tabloid had carried a small piece against the Sanstha. Her tabloid’s circulation was extremely limited. She had a prominent presence in many conferences and with naxals. We want to know who was funding her activities,” he questioned.

“We’ve written letters expressing our willingness to share any information we have relating to the murder. Efforts are being made to delay the trial in the twin murders (Kalburgi and Gauri), while a propaganda war has been launched against the Sanstha,” Shinde stated.

“The so-called intellectuals, rationalists, communists and naxal sympathisers should stop spreading false news and tarnishing the image of Hindu organisations and wait patiently till the assailants are arrested,” he added.

    We would pray this instituion would have hand in murder as it would tarnish the image of all non fundamentalist beleivers. hinduism is not RSS or Sanatan Sanstha , Hindutva is a sentence, every living being is a Hindu by default because only one sentence and few words in that sentence describes Hinduism and essence of living. I would rationally beleive that i dont need to idol worship or take part in Hindu Rituals, as good as i am as deist, i read this sentence and it gives peace to mind.

    Whatever happened, happened for the good. Whatever is happening, is happening for the good. Whatever will happen, will also happen for the good.

    A sentence for all humans.... is the concept of Hinduism
    For every non believer Lord Krishna isnt God, he is our own conscience, according to Mahabharata, Five senses are Pandavas, Krishna is conscience which tells us to do good, and Kauravas are those who attack our senses with evilness and hatred.

    With the needle of forensic findings now pointing to a clear link between the killers of journalist Gauri Lankesh, Kannada scholar M.M. Kalburgi and communist leader Govind Pansare of Kolhapur, the spotlight is once again on the shadowy Goa-based Sanatan Sanstha.
    Almost two decades after the hardline Hindutva organisation parked itself in Goa it was registered by a trust deed in the state in March 1999 very little is known of what goes on inside the Sanatan Sanstha’s ‘ashram’ in Ramnathi, Ponda, or who actually calls the shots there, as its reclusive founder, Jayant Balaji Athavale, a Mumbai based hypnotherapist who turned 75 this year, stopped making public appearances at the ashram since 2004.
    One morning, during the early monsoons of 2008, villagers of Ponda woke up to a strange stench rising from the fields. As the water receded, it had left behind over 1000 used condoms.
    Villagers were outraged. A police inquiry was conducted. It was found that the Sanatan Sanstha had ordered approximately 3,000 condoms from the Goa government. One thousand of them – putrid and rotting were scattered on the rice fields. The sanstha has since claimed that the condoms were purchased for married couples who live in the ashram.
    A year later, on October 16, 2009, a bomb went off in Madgaon, 17 km from Ponda. Two people carrying the bomb Malgona Patil and Yogesh Naik were killed when it went off prematurely. Both were members of the Sanatan Sanstha.
    If there is a fear of speaking, it is legitimate. Since 2009, the sanstha has been accused of the murders of Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare. The accused in the Dabholkar case, Virendra Tawde, was acquitted for lack of evidence.
    Six years later, on June 17, 2017, during the All Hindu Conference, Samir Gaikwad, the accused in the Pansare case, was granted bail.

    Though the BJP and its parent body, the RSS, may pretend to have nothing to do with the Sanatan,its backhand support and silence provides more than ample endorsement.
