The Cause for CAUSE

The Jesuits who founded the educational institutions more than a century ago had very clear cut ideals and objectives. They intended to mould young men and women into fine individuals who would be competent, compassionate, conscientious and committed. It is with this objective that the novel venture CAUSE – Citizen Alliance to Uphold Service and Exchange, thought of by St Aloysius Pre-University college three years ago was conceptualized.

Many students belong to the affluent section of the society. They are unaware of how grinding poverty can be, how lonely the aged can be, how even a few hundred rupees can make a difference for many who are financially backward and downtrodden. CAUSE, an outreach programme, is intended to show concern and care for the needy, downtrodden, less privileged, aged and the marginalized and  helpless section of the modern society. The initiative is to instill humanitarian values in the students, on tandem with the adage ‘Catch them young'.

This particular venture, whereby students raise funds from the public who voluntarily donate to the noble cause, was proof to Aloysians believing in making a difference in a noble way. This being the fourth year of the noble enterprise, students rose to the occasion with many creative ideas and touching performances to raise funds for needy. This was also a channel for willing people to pool in their mite, a venture that touched thousands of willing donors who graciously and ungrudgingly donated to the cause.

CAUSE, over the years, has been the saving grace for numerous shelters like Ave Maria-Palliative care ward in Vamanjoor, Jeevadan - rehabilitation centre for HIV and AIDS in Vamanjoor, Snehasadan-care and support centre for HIV and AIDS in Vamanjoor, Preetisadan- orphanage for girls in Kateel, Samvedanaa-home for children in Pumpwell, Sevaashrama- orphanage for destitute women in Derlakatte, Bhagini Samaj- orphanage for children in Marnemikatte, Khairiya Shelter- an orphanage for Muslim girls and Bala Samrakshana Kendra- Home for orphan children in Derlakatte. The CAUSE team also visited the TB Hospital in Pilikula, Sion Ashram in Belthangady and Infant Mary Home in Jeppu.

This year, CAUSE selected Snehalaya, Dar-Ush-Shafqah, and will be helping in the construction of a house for an underprevileged alumnus, along with the introduction of CAUSE scholarship, supporting education for the underprivileged.

"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me."... resounds the scriptures... Keeping the spirit of this verse St aloysius Pu has tried its utmost best to reach out to the unreached and share their time to those staying away from home .... It's but a small gesture to involve thr children to delve into knowing the experiences of these people from close quarters and contribute in ways best known to make their day...It is not possible to reach out on a daily basis...but it's also true that little drops of water make a mighty ocean... and thanks to st Aloysius PU for starting a Noble 'CAUSE' and Keep continuing 'CAUSE '

This is one way to enable the young generation to demonstrate their talents in dancing, singing and interacting with the older generation and create a window of entertainment for the senior members of the community.

The times have changed, and the younger generation of today has the energy and the talent to display their spirit of entertainment and share their joys with the elderly that are longing to smile and be part of the younger generation in their "fun loving" world. The younger generation is fortunate that they have all the privileges of new musical instruments as well as the best of music so that they can share their talents with the elderly and create an atmosphere of joy and fun.

There is nothing wrong in bringing the Xmas in September and share the excitement with the elderly many of whom would like to remain young at hearts and bring in the seasonal cheers in the community. Thank you, St. Aloysius College for bringing a new spirit in the City who will in turn support you in many other ways of your needs and wants for the St. Aloysius College students.

Great initiative by SAC. Today, colleges are created in dozens to churn out degrees and not education. Education should encompass development of knowledge, expertise in chosen subject, development of character, respect one another and above all capacity to judge what is right and what is wrong. A road is paved for a respectable life and earn the daily bread and butter. SAC has gone even beyond this by involving the students to understand, how people at different stages suffers and why compassion plays a major role in every human being. This brings about all round development. I salute my ex-Alma mater for taking this initiative at a crucial time, when the whole populace is inundated with technology and lack of physical communication with each other even within one's homes. Way to go.

The initiative taken by St Aloysius PU College is praiseworthy. The teenagers will be exposed to the realities of our Society when they visit an orphanage or an old age home which will help them to show care and concern to the less privileged. The teenagers who otherwise would spend time with smart phones during their free time have taken time to think about the needy. The college needs to be applauded for the great work.
