Mangaluru, Sep 2: Milagres Educational Institutes, one of the most prestigious institutes in Dakshina Kannada, has been imparting education right from kindergarten to graduation. Milagres Degree College was established in the year 2010 with the aim of empowering the youth through value based education to improve the quality of life and build a better future.
The college which is located in the heart of the city attracts youth from various parts, for it is close to the central railway station and the bus stand. Milagres Degree College is affiliated to Mangalore University and offers undergraduate course in commerce (BCom) and business administration (BBA).
BSc in Hotel Management, FND and CMS
Realizing the scope and lack of professionals in the hospitality industry, the college started a BSc degree course in Hotel Management in the year 2016. The college offers BSc FND in food, nutrition and dietetics which has vast job opportunity in the field of national and multinational food processing companies, as dietician (hospitals, companies, and retail sector), food laboratories, and BSc CMS in computer science, mathematics, and statistics which has numerous job opportunities in banking sector, IT sector, and governments sector. BSc FND and BSc CMS are an added discipline from the academic year 2017-2018.
Job-oriented course
The courses on offer are 100% job oriented. BSc in hospitality science includes food and beverage production (which help the students to learn and practice different type of cuisines like Indian , oriental, continental, bakery, Italian, Arab etc), food and beverage service (different type of services like American, English, assisted, Geri don service etc), front office (reservation, registration, booking etc) housekeeping (standard way of cleaning) with practical exams.
In addition to this, the course also offers subjects like hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, French, accounting, human resource management, facility management, hotel law, tourism management, marketing management, hospitality information system and on the job training (internship) in the sixth semester which will enable students to meet the rising scope in the hospitality industry, retail industry, cruises and become professionals who aspire for perfection.
State-of-the-art facilities
The college supports every department with adequate infrastructure, digital class rooms, well settled service lab, advanced production lab, model housekeeping lab, front office lab with all modern amenities and advanced library with internet connected computer lab for soothing, conducive, and pleasing environment for learning.
To enhance the skill of the students, the college also started add-on courses like bartending, culinary art, French language course, beautician course, drama, soft skills, and seminars which help students secure high positions in the hospitality industry. This gives more scope for the Milagreans.
Extra-curricular activities
For the overall development, the college has football, basketball, volley ball courts where students can play. Indoor games like table tennis, carom, chess and others too are encouraged by the college.
In order to sensitize students to the needs of the society, they are exposed to the hard reality and made to render service at various orphanages, old age homes, as well as specially-abled children’s home. They are also motivated to give service as traffic wardens which will help in the smooth movement of vehicles in the city and make them aware of the importance of traffic rules.
