Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 21: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math underwent hernia procedure at Manipal hospital on Sunday August 20. Hospital sources said that the Swamiji has shown impressive recovery.

After the Swamiji was taken to hospital on Sunday morning, tests were conducted on him. He was led to the operation theatre at 11.45 am and a team led by Rajgopal Shenoy performed the surgical procedure that lasted about an hour. The Swamiji has been recuperating in a room adjacent to the operation theatre, and a team of doctors have been supervising his condition.

The Swamiji, who responded well, expressed his inclination to perform puja at the Math on Monday but the doctors dissuaded him from doing so as he needed to be under medical observation for 18 hours. On Monday evening, he held talks with the junior Swamiji, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha.

The Swamiji is expected to be discharged soon. He consumed milk and read newspapers, hospital sources added.

    Shankar,
It's a very very sinsitive and spiritual subject. God & prayers one can go against. As you said if operation is successful and patient dead, we finally, say that it's God's wish. In the mean time all the religions believe in the creator, offer prayers and so many religous ceremonies and rituals not because any one seen God. It is a faith & belief which has been built from creation of human beings or being passed on from our forefathers. Better we talk less about that and live as better human beings in this world.

    Wish Pejawar Swamiji speedy recovery.

As per I know, Paryaya Swamiji of Udupi Mutts, during their Paryaya period not allowed to move from outside Ratha Beedhi. Then how Pejawar Swamiji admitted to Manipal hospital ?. May be there is relaxation in rules for health issues ?. Without any prejudice anyone can clarify this ?. This is just for knowledge only.

Why can't you use your real name?
Never under estimate the power of prayers.
From generation to generation people have believed that
    prayers can do miracles.
Medical science (Doctors), our fiath and prayers go side by side.
Believe it or no but no one is forcing you.
I remember when Amitabh was accidentaly got injured and his recovery was going slow inspite of best of suregery or midical attention but people from all over the world did offer prayers for his speedy recovery.

    Flavian,
Prayers just calms the minds of the one who pray. It will not have any effect on the patient.

We pray when doctor does surgery. If the surgery is successful, we praise the Lord. If the surgery goes wrong, we beat the doctor!

It depends and case to case basis. There are some people who even if their close family member dies after the operation, they will not curse God, rather they would say: it's'God's Will'...

Nischetha, Moorchcha are terms for being unconscious. Your suggestion of 'Nishvethana' can be taken as opposite of 'Shvetha' (White). Any of these go anywhere near the inducing of anesthetics.

heard of "sanjnaharana" (taking away senses literal meaning)used in Sushtura samhita? there were many techniques used during that time including alcohol or animal based products. Arivalike is known term. \A saint doesnt mean, he will not have cough or cold or should not have natural oldage problems. He has lived healthily for 80plus years with mostdifficultest daily routine of cold water bath, limited vegetarian food, Yoga, Pranayayam etc... Congress chamchas have never give importance and scope to learn or practice Ayurvedic medicine or popularise it. Even Mother Teresa was treated by Indian doctors with many surgeries on her heart etc. specially a Dr.Devi Shetty. does that mean, she had no trust on God or her miraculous power or other saints who did wonders and miracles?! All need medical help. Pope also needs a PopeMobile and guards to save him, inspite of him being direct hotline touch with God on daily basis,.

    Absolutely.

Message for all those who are "praying" for swamiji's speedy recovery - other than making you feel good (if you genuinely prayed for it!) it does not make an iota of difference to swamiji's health.

Whether you are Pejawar swamiji; or the Pope; or Donald Trump; or any common man on the street - when you are lying in an operation theater, only the actions/opinions of doctors and allied medical staff counts and nothing else (including your prayers).

The truth may be hard to digest as someone's life long (false) conviction to God and prayer is not easy to comprehend.

All those who absolutely believe that prayers do work, just answer one question. In February 2016 Lance Naik Hanumanthappa was fighting for his life in AIIMS Delhi for several days. And in Dec 2012 Nirbhaya was fighting for her life for many days. The entire country prayed for their recovery (I am not at all doubting the sincerity of of everyone who prayed). Yet they did not survive. Why didn't the prayers work? I am sure someone will come up with even a further twisted logic to explain as to why the prayers did not work.

because they were dead long before. Politics came into the picture and people were lied to. Just like in the case of Jayalalitha.

There are some things no one has an answer to. Even scientists believe in the existence of a supernatural being. I'm not trying to argue for theists, but all I am saying is, faith keeps one afloat in the midst of calamities. Prayers kept everyone united when the church was attacked. It was a ray of hope, a positive, in the midst of cold cruelty at that time.

Look at religion as a social glue. If you are a rationalist, you will know about a study on suicide by sociologist Emile Durkheim.

It's nice to be critical, even being a part of the faith. That's how Martin Luther was a revolutionary. In fact it is essential to examine the structures of religion just like the structure of politics. But ridiculing people because they believe a certain something is unfair.

Maybe Faith does not work for you and a lot others. But then again, there are plenty who would disagree when it comes to their personal experience.

Faith is great. Blind faith is something that needs a check on. That's all. In the end, we will all be six feet under.

    Hi Santosh,

To say that Nirbhaya and Hanumanthappa were dead long before they were publicly announced is trivializing and de-humanising the hard-work and 24/7 efforts put in by the doctors at Army hospital in Leh, in AIIMS and in Singapore.

If your argument regarding Nirbhaya's death is even accepted; that would tantamount to accepting that 4 people have been sentenced to death on a false evidence?? (since the post mortem report is a crucial piece of evidence and this report will need to be 'doctored' in order to keep the pretense of her death in Singapore alive).

And to say that Hanumanthappa was dead long before he was brought to Delhi will be a blot on the whole nation if you say that an young soldier's wife and mother were lied about his death!! Please get real and have some sense of perspective on which you are commenting.

As I said previously, faith does not solve any issues on the ground. Other than making you feel good, it serves no other purpose. The best example as to how futile a faith based society is could be gauged from our next door neighbor Pakistan. The Muslim League coined the two nation theory based on their belief that all Muslims of the Indian subcontinent formed one nation merely based on their Islamic faith. How miserably Pakistan failed as a nation-state is for every one to see.

I have no problem with religion or god, as long as it one's personal / individual choice; and I will be a fool to deny that religion has played a major role in shaping our today's society. However, we are in 21st Century and for us grow collectively as a society, decisions have to be made on logic and rational; and not on irrational beliefs because it 'glues' the society together. Why should the notion of society and nation be based on a lie? A large chunk of Western Europe has discarded religion from their daily life and they are leading a perfectly reasonable life.
