Mob of 100 attacks police attempting to rescue cows in Gujarat

Godhra, Aug 20 (PTI): A police team was on Saturday attacked by a mob of over 100 persons in Godhra when it tried to rescue a large number of cows which were allegedly being taken for slaughter.

The police had to lob 18 rounds of teargas shells after the mob attacked them, Godhra Deputy SP VK Nai said.

"When the police team reached the ground where the cattle were kept, they were attacked by the mob with stones. To disperse the crowd, police team lobbed 18 teargas shells. Nobody was injured," he said.

The security forces had carried out an extensive combing operation upon receiving information that the cattle were brought here for slaughtering.

The police found that a large number of cattle were tied at a place on the ground. When they tried to untie the animals and take them into their custody, the officers were attacked, Nai said.

"We seized 49 cattle from the spot and took them to cow shelter," he said.

Further investigation is being carried out in this connection with an FIR registered at B division police station, the official said.

Slaughter of cow and its progeny is banned in Gujarat, which through its recently amended Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2017, has envisaged punishment of up to life term and Rs 5 lakh fine for cow slaughtering.

Following the death of 200 cows in a goshala run by Chhattisgarh BJP leader Harish Verma, another 90 cow carcasses were found today in two other cowsheds run by him.
The deaths are due to the lack of food and water, reported. Villagers told the reporters that at least 200 cows had died over the last week.
Verma however claimed that his party’s own government did not release the annual grants for the maintenance of the goshalas in a state where cow slaughter is banned, according to the Indian Express report. “There are meant to be 220 cows, but there are 600. The government is meant to give me Rs 10 lakh per year to maintain the goshala. But they have not paid for the past two years. I haven’t got the Rs 10 lakh for last year, and while you are meant to give some money every three months, I haven’t got any this year.
In 'Gujarat Model' law enforcement officers became 'Go Rakshaks' and another BJP rule Chattisgarh 'Gow mata' are dieing of hunger.
In Gujarat humans are made to die due to lack of protein and Chhattisgarh starve to death.

Where will go all these cattles after it siezed ?

"200 cows die of starvation at a shelter (gowshala) run by BJP leader in Chhattisgarh"
Headlines in Hindustan Times , India today and Indian express: 2 days ago

Arrest those people first who sell the cattle.

As far as my knowledge the law itself allowed slaughter of cattles for food and religious sacrifice under animl cruelty act.

BJP is least concerned about the social and economic welfare of Indians. Its main priorities are only cow and cow dung. I hope voter wake up and realize that bjp has failed to do any good job since 2014.
