Tension for Cong mounts in Gujarat, 1 more MLA resigns; 6 in two days

Ahmedabad, Jul 28 (Agencies): Tension continues to simmer for Congress in Gujarat as the party lost six MLAs in just two days.

Three more have filed their resignations to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ramanbhai Vora on Friday.

Ramsinh Parmar stepped down after Mansingh Chouhan and Chhanabhai Chaudhary resigned earlier on Friday.

On Thursday three Congress MLAs from Gujarat had resigned and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The resignation is seen as a major blow to Congress ahead of the Rajya Sabha election.

The resignation of three more MLAs on Friday has reduced Congress's tally to 51 in the 182-seat Assembly.

The MLAs who have tendered their resignation on Thursday are considered close to former Opposition leader Shankarsinh Vaghela who has also resigned from the Assembly.

On Thursday Balwantsinh Rajput (who was also the chief whip), Tejashreeben Patel and Prahlad Patel had resigned.

The development came at a time when the Congress has fielded its senior leader Ahmed Patel as its candidate for the Upper House in the election scheduled for August 8.

The Congress nominee can sail through if he musters the support of 47 MLAs and the party is able to guard against further desertions from its legislative arm.

The presidential election had seen cross-voting by Congress legislators as the Opposition candidate Meira Kumar could garner votes of only 49 legislators against the Congress's strength of 57 in the Assembly then.

The setback for the Congress comes almost a week after Vaghela left the party and also resigned as the Leader of Opposition. However, he continues to be an MLA.

Ahmed Patel, political secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from Gujarat for the Rajya Sabha polls.

Of the total 11 Rajya Sabha members from the state, the term of three of them — Smriti Irani, Dilipbhai Pandya (both BJP) and Ahmed Patel— is ending on August 18.

BJP President Amit Shah and Union Minister Smriti Irani have filed their nomination on Friday and will contest for Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat.

Currently, Shah is an MLA from Gujarat's Naranpura constituency.

Hope people remember what Ahmed Patel had said in March 2014 in response to Modi's statement that 'he and Modi are good friends' which was the truth, both of them shared cordial relationship. Patel however had disowned this statement & said Modi was lying.

Circa July 2017, Shah & Modi are at work to decimate very existence of Patel. This is nothing more than vengeance for the lie that Patel had said in fear of his Italian bosses

This import and export of MLAs and MP always takes place from one party to another. This can be stopped by strong party leaders by strong actions. It is time for the political parties to get rid of all the MLAs MPs MPs etc. who are useless and not elected or rejected by people.
If party leaders keep such unwanted people as consultants advisers then the party will doom. Many genuine hard working people will leave the party. It is better to get rid of the unwanted selfish advisory party leaders unless they are elected by people.

The whole exercise of defection from BJP is nothing but to defeat Rajya Sabha nominee Ahmed Patel who served as secretary and close confident of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Vaghela who was mentor of Modi is staking is claim for CM position but due his RSS background Congress is not reluctant to give me the position. BJP in other hand wanted to defeat vowed Vaghela to his camp with promise of Governor post and his son cabinet ministry.
It is strange in Indian democracy any MLA from any party can quit on his will before the 5 years tenure and cast his ballot as per his convenience. If this defections has to discouraged MLA's need to be disqualified from voting and banned for renomination for current period as well as one more term. If autonomous Election commision of India don't amend the law Indian democracy will be in shambles.
I request for 'Association of Democratic Rights(ADR) to file petition against the Election commision seeking explanation and to discourage defections.
But instead of a Congress-mukt, or free, India, the BJP seems to be aiming at a Congress-yukt India – one filled with Congress men and women. Amit Shah’s Idea of a ‘Congress-Free India’ one where BJP is full of congress leaders.
Now it is time for Bhakta's do some retrospect .The party and leaders they called 'Dongress', 'Chor Party' all became part of party of difference BJP which is going to shine India through money power.

Now you have to live with this reality
No use in crying /sour grapes
Congress only started this defection politics
When nidderammayya given cm post from which party he came ?
Now you complain about Vaghela because he is not in a position
to follow the weak command you start blaming him
Where were you when he joined in 1996 ?
For next 2-3 terms you have to at Midi & Shah
Hope by that time you too may join them

Sir,The whole debate on this subject about sanctity of democratic process. If politicians are free to cross party at their will and wish against the voters mandate then we don't need expensive elections.

If everything can bought and sold in open using money, muscle and misuse of administrative tool it is better not have elections at all.

My point 'anti-defection' should be have 'zero tolerance'. Unless until we do not have tough law and oust them from voting rights in parliament all our taxpayers money will go in drain. Forget about development.
No matter whichever party those affiliated, Indian democracy became legalised brothel.

Sir I agree with your points but why you raise this point when Congress
MALAs start defecting or Congress loss one by one state.
The Representation Act should be changed accordingly to accomdate
your suggestions for which 2/3 majority should be there
But you blame only BJP and ask them to retrospect why only them
whole political class should change for good
So don't try to blame BJP rather ask khangress whether their MLAs r so cheap /desperate ?where is your freedom of expression /movement
if MLAs r taken like sheep(kuri mande) to Bnglr
