Mangaluru, Jul 27: A portion of the ceiling at the Central railway station here collapsed on Thursday July 27, injuring at least one person.

It is learnt that several passengers were standing in a queue at the ticket counter in the railway station, when a part of the ceiling suddenly came crashing down.

Most of the passengers escaped unhurt, while Biju Mathew from Kannur, Kerala, sustained head injuries. Biju had come to Mangaluru with his mother Thresiyamma for her treatment and was in the queue with the others.

Biju has been admitted to Wenlock hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Sources say that such incidents of the ceiling wearing off and falling on people is a regular sight in the Central railway station.

What else can we expect when Mangalore railway stations are under Palakkad railway division of Southern railway? The major revenue, as much as 70-75 percent, for Palakkad division comes from Mangalore which is spent for the railway development in Kerala. The only solution is to seperate Mangalore from Palakkad railway division.

The railways have repaired the road after so many years, I mean the road from the town hall side. The roads have been repaired after so many years it was in a very bad state. Now I think it is time to renovate the Mangalore central railway station before a tragedy happens.

Luckily, nobody was seriously injured except for one person who has been admitted to a government hospital with head injuries. The picture shot by Ramesh Pandith of Daijiworld clearly shows the ceiling had just a thin coating of cement with the brick above it. The whole ceiling might collapse any time before it is fixed.

Is this railway station built by our smart city smart people?. The outside looks like it has been built by bamboos and just painted over. It looks so rickety that it will collapse anytime. Looks like even God is fed up and given up on this country, so we have started worshipping cow.

They are only interested in name change. At least try to repair British built building before blaming them all the time. If it was built by our contractors, it would have been collapsed long ago.

Shame on Railway Authority and Govt. Shamelessly, You Increase All the Travelling Fairs And When it comes to service matters you just ignore the passengers, cos you have got the ticket money.

For each and everything, you take the fine and everything. don't have this common thing in mind that the building is old and out dated. should renew or reconstruct the building. For this, you don't have funds..?

For this also Mayor Should come for a raid ...?

    Mangalore Smart city...??
