Governor Ram Naik, CM Adityanath remember Kargil martyrs

Lucknow, Jul 26 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday paid tributes to the Kargil martyrs for their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Both placed wreaths at the Shaheed Smriti Vatika in the Cantonment area and honoured the widows and family members of the martyrs who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.

A large number of retired Army personnel, families of the defence personnel, state government officials and school children participated in several events lined up across the state capital and other parts of Uttar Pradesh to mark the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The Gaurav Senani Kalyan Sansthan has planned a candlelight march here in the evening, starting from Motibagh and concluding at Saint Margaret School.

Adityanath in his address remembered the Kargil martyrs for their valour and recalled how the Pakistani forces after being beaten by the Indian armed forces ran to the then US administration, seeking its intervention.

Showing respect for the martyrs, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to name the Lucknow Sainik School after Param Vir Chakra awardee Manoj Pandey, who was martyred in the Kargil War. The state cabinet has approved the decision.

The Sainik School in the state capital will be known as Manoj Pandey UP Sainik School.
