Udupi: New Cross erected on boat shaped Stella Maris church Kalmady

Udupi, July 25: The installation of new Cross, on the presently renovated Kalmady Stella Maris church, one of the famous pilgrim centers of Udupi district was held on Tuesday, July 25.

The Cross made of stainless steel was erected on the main tower of the church being built in the shape of a boat. The cross is 3.5 meters high, two meters broad and weighs 250 kilograms.

Prayers were held by Fr Alban D' Souza, parish priest, before the installation.

People from all the communities come to pray in the church. The church is given a shape of a boat during renovation. It will have an area of 10,000 square feet with facility for 700 people to sit and offer prayers at a time.

The renovated church will be inaugurated on January 6 next year. This is the first boat shaped church in Karnataka. 

Vice president of parish pastoral council, Sanjay Andrade, secretary Shobha Mendonca, renovation committee convener Louis Lobo, Fr Steven and devotees were present.
