Bengaluru: Yeddyurappa questions CM on management of communal disturbances

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 11: BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa, has objected to the chief minister, Siddaramaih’s decision to give power to regulate communal frictions in the state including Dakshina Kannada district to adviser to the home minister and former police officer, Kempaiah. He feels that this undermines the police system in the state.

He criticized the CM for failing to take charge of home portfolio and thus instil a sense of confidence among police officers, adding that the CM, with his move, has made the police officers lose heart. He analyzed that this measure indicates that the CM has no confidence on his own police force.

Yeddyurappa, who released a press statement on this issue, questioned Siddaramaiah, who has poured out his anger against police officials in Dakshina Kannada for not doing anything to control communal tensions there during the last about 42 days. He wondered how the CM could forget that he too did not do anything to ease the situation during this period. "The CM was silent and not willing to do anything when the entire district was in the grip of communal tension. Now he is showing his arrogance against police officers. He has failed to identify police officers who have sincerely worked to ease the situation. The CM is wrong in projecting policemen of the district as inefficient," he analyzed.

Yeddyurappa said he has come to know that the CM, during a meeting, asked the officials to arrest Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. "If this is true, the CM has clearly violated legal processes in directing the officers to do something on his own, as this is height of irresponsibility. The CM should leave aside the feeling that intoxicated with power, he can do whatever he wants, and give attention to discharging his duties," he stated.

He also lashed out at ministers, Ramanath Rai and U T Khader, for talking irresponsibly on the issue and posing challenge to BJP leaders to fight next election against them. "This reflects the level of their incapacity. People will teach them a fitting lesson in the election," he predicted.
