Haveri, Jul 4: Shjivaraj Sajjanar, district president of BJP and former MLC, was remanded to judicial custody by the court of the chief judicial magistrate here on Monday July 3. Sajjanar is facing the allegation of violating election code of conduct.

Chief judicial magistrate, N Sunilkumar Singh, passed the said order when Sajjanar appeared before the court on Monday for hearing. Allegedly Sajjanar had arranged for breakfast for the members of self help group in front of his house during the 2013 assembly election. Sajjanar was then supporting KJP candidate from the local constituency, Nehru Olekar. This was considered to be violation of code of conduct during election.

After Sajjanar failed to appear before the court during May this year even after service of summons by the court, the court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant against him. In tune with the warrant, he appeared in the court on Monday, whereupon he was sent to judicial custody.

Sajjanar has been currently lodged in the district prison here. His supporters have been camping in front of the jail and trying to secure bail through an advocate.
