Karwar, Jun 22: High alert has been issued at the naval base here after three unidentified men reportedly infiltrated into the area on Wednesday June 21 night, reports said.

The high alert has been issued around the Project Seabird, Asia's most advanced naval base located at Alageri village near Ankola here.

According to media reports, naval officers are yet to make any official statements, but security personnel are combing the area.

Reports claimed that three unidentified men were spotted on CCTV on Wednesday night. It is also said that the men crossed into the base by jumping over a compound wall next to national highway 66. The locals who saw them informed the officials that the men were acting suspiciously, sources said.

Efforts are on to trace them and establish their identities and motives, sources said.

In addition to the combing operation, the police are keeping a close watch on the national highway 66 too that passes through the naval base.

The naval base houses the INS Kadamba, the third largest Indian naval ship, commissioned in 2005. The INS Kadamba houses Indian Navy's most potent weapons. The naval base is also equipped with naval air station, naval armament depot, research facility and full-fledged naval ship repair yard.
