Bengaluru: Complaint filed over draping of National Flag on Parvathamma's body

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 3: An advocate from the city has filed a private complaint in a court here, alleging that provisions of National Flag Act were violalted in draping Indian flag over the body of Parvathamma Rajkumar during her funeral procession on May 31.

The advocate, identified as Chetan, has named chief secretary to the government, home secretary, and city police commissioner as respondents in the case. The private complaint stands filed in the 24th additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court here citing violation of rule No. 5 of Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

The complainant has said that under the rules, national flag can be used as a drapery only in case of the funeral of of state police, military, and central para military forces alone and that it cannot be used in the funeral of individuals.

In addition, the national flag can be used to drape mortal remains of current and former President and Vice President, current central and state ministers, and freedom fighters as a mark of respect. He also pointed out that there is provision to impose punishment by way of three years of rigorous imprisonment and fine in case of violation.

He has requested the court to register criminal case against the accused under the said act. They should be tried as per law and punished, he stated.

Stupid people, they dont know what to do at all. May be some of Rajkumar fans or his family followers, brought a flag and someone who doesn't know our Indian judicial rules, draped it. May be it might have happened because of less common sense or not aware of the rules. But, there is a issue, but take it cool, because, they draped a Indian Flag, not a Pakistani Flag. It was a funeral and not a dance program.

Forget what happened, let the people at least be aware that it is not to be repeated.

RIP. Nation and National flag are superior to heaven. There is no question of any sort of compromise with flag and nation. Whilst I condemn this particular incident of national flag draping to undeserving person, also I am not convinced flag draping to "all central and state ministers" as each of them may not be a saint. There should be a qualification to get this honour and just being "a minister" should not be considered as qualification, otherwise "Martyrs" are insulted...Tainted ones must be kept away, otherwise drape may stink.

In 2006, sudden death of Rajkumar, then State Government lead by Kumaraswamy failed to handle Proper arrangement of funeral of Rajkumar & it was totally messed up. That time, then sacked JDS leader Siddaramayya openly accused Kumaraswamy that " If a CM cannot arrange a funeral of Rajkumar, then how can he run the state?????????.

Now 2017 same Siddaramayya is the CM of Karnataka & he doesn't have the idea of whose funeral National Flag should be draped & whose not.... then how can he run the state ?

Lack of Education and blindly following whole bunch of uneducated leaders leads to such type of incidences .
Same is applicable in case of politics also ..... so think what type of development we can expect from them ? but still they get the support for the educated public at large for their personnel gain & not national interest and the result is we can see such incidence no regular basis.

    RIP to a great mother....

Obviously it is an error on part of anyone who has done this.
We often see people draping themselves with national flags during sports events.
She has contributions to Kannada film industry.
But that does not call for this kind of a detour from protocol.

What has she done to the nation or state only to the family and to the Kannada film industry. Really surprised when the National flag was draped on her body, the police are close spectators for the drama. Did the family think that it was a making of a film. Hats off to the advocate, our country needs such people. RIP Parvathamma.

May her soul rest in peace

Even I agree with the complainent. State honor itself was too much infact for Parvathamma. However considering late Dr Rajumar & his contribution to Kannada, it's ok, the state honor is not surprised. But drapping her body with tricolor was totally understand acceptable.
