Mangaluru: Robbery in Matsyagandha Express -Woman loses jewellery, cash

Mangaluru, May 26: A woman travelling from Mumbai to Suratkal in Matsyagandha Express lost jewellery and valuables worth lacs.

The news has come to light after 4 days. The incident took place on May 22.

Pratima Satish Karkera, from Bhandup in Mumbai, is the woman who lost her valuables.

Pratima took the Matsyagandha train from Kurla Terminal to travel to her native Suratkal. When the train reached Vidyavihar Junction, a young man entered the compartment and snatched the bag from her. Then he jumped out from the train to disappear.

The bag contained necklace weighing 70 grams, earrings weighing 10 grams, Rs 12,000 cash which included Rs 5,000 she was carrying for her friend and a mobile phone. The jewellery was recently purchased. She wanted to wear it after offering prayers to the family goddess in native place.

As soon as she lost the bag, she phoned her husband and family members.

A complaint was lodged at Thana station regarding the robbery.

Police are investigating. CCTV images will be analyses to catch the culprit, said police sources.

    Even after so many such incidents being published regularly, many people r still acting like fools!

    In the first place y she had to take the risk of buying gold in Mumbai, as if there is dearth of same here, n then carry it when travelling, that too alone?

    Difficult to believe that somebody, in 21st century, still following blind faith rituals of offering gold to some deity n then wearing it?

    There r well organized gangs operating in trains working in collusion with law enforcers n looting soft targets!

    She would be very lucky if she gets back her valuables!!

    Its just and just no fear of law. If theives murderers rapists punish as per islamic shariah the crimeless society is guarrenteed . Imagine how can a gold shop can keep open without any attendant inside while on prayer time in saudi arabia. Thats surity of prevailace of strict law where bail may be day dream for anti socials

    Railway police need to focus more on their job with added loyalty! I guess some of the thieves are known to police, otherwise why so may robberies on train??

    In this case, was it wise to travel unaccompanied with so much gold in a train which is notorious for robberies??
    She would be very lucky if she gets back her valuables by praying to the concerned deity!!

    A press conference will be called to prove the innocence of the culprit once he is caught, and will be given bail to freely roam around and try to strike again to an innocent traveler. Our law and order is so fluid and flexible.

    In Indian democratic system these thieves despite of getting caught will be enjoying jail food for some time and come out and rob the innocents again. It is better to chop their hands such that they will repeat again. The fear of getting chopped also prevents them from robbing!

    Actually many thieves do exists in trains.Its better be carefully against thieves One of my friend who was travelling recnetly told me to be very careful regrading thieves in this trains. Best is to be very careful with these thieves., Since I wa very careful I did not loose anything Some act as friends and then slowly will rob yoyu Do not be friendly with anyone in trains especially strnagers Beware thats all I cna say. Especially in trains to Bmbay there are theives
