Mangaluru, May 25: Daiji Dubai, a UAE-based forum of Konkani writers, is all set to celebrate its 18th anniversary at Gallery Orchid in the city on Saturday May 27 at 5 pm.

J R Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South, will attend the programme as chief guest. Well-known Konkani poet and writer Jerry Rasquinha will give a literary talk on the topic 'Konkani novels from a reader's perspective'.

'Daiji Literary Award 2017' will be presented to renowned Konkani writer H J Goveas during the programme. The award carries a prize money of Rs 75,000 along with a citation and certificate of honour. Well-Known Konkani writer and senior member of the forum C G S Taccode will conduct a short interaction with the awardee.

H J Goveas' tryst with Konkani literature began in the early 1970s. His stories have been published in well-known Konkani periodicals such as Raknno, Poinnari, Sevak, Kutam, Dirvem, Mithr, Zhelo, Kannik, Kurov, Arso etc. His stories regularly appear in Konkani web portals like Kittall, Daaiz and Konkani Friends. A veteran of 29 novels and over 1,000 short stories, Goveas has lived through the changing times of Konkani literature by conceiving fiction for over 40 years with unflinching honesty, without expecting any awards and rewards. Among his novels are 'Hanv Tuka Bogsunchi Na' which received the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award, 'April 22', 'Yetaan Tuji Vaat Dharun' (his first novel), 'Ankvaar Avoi, Kalokantlle Dole', 'Baara Metam', 'Rahasya', 'Lipaillem Sat', 'Buyarantllo Ghut' and many more.

Daiji Dubai have welcomed everyone to be part of the programme with their presence. As is well known, besides its cultural ad literal identity, 'Daiji Dubai is also associated with many worthy social causes thereby motivating other people and organizations worldwide.
