Video of Andhra girl begging dad for money to treat cancer goes viral after death

Vijayawada, May 17 (HT) : A video of a 13-year old girl from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh begging her father to pay for her cancer treatment has gone viral on social media, days after she died.

Sai Sri, who died of bone marrow cancer on Sunday, made the appeal to her father Shiva Kumar 3 days before her death seeking financial assistance through a video. It was recorded on a mobile phone by her mother Suma Sri.

“Please save me, daddy. Doctors say I won’t survive for long if I don’t get treatment. You say you don’t have money, but we have a house here. Please sell it and pay for my treatment. Please do something and save me,” Sai is seen saying in the video amidst sobs.

“I want to go to school like all other children and play with my friends. If I get treatment on time, I can go to school again. I feel pain in my limbs. There is no money with mummy. If you think that she will take your money, then you take me to the hospital, and get me treated,” she says.

The video was forwarded to Kumar through WhatsApp but he did not respond, Suma alleged.

Suma told the media in Vijayawada Sai was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in August 2016 and doctors in Hyderabad told her the only way the girl could survive was through bone marrow transplantation, which would cost around Rs 30 lakh.

“I had no money so I called Shiva Kumar who asked me to bring the child to him, saying he would get her proper treatment at Bengaluru. I left Sai Sri with him in February this year but he did not take her to any hospital. So, I brought her back to Vijayawada,” Suma said.

She added she separated from Kumar, a follower of local Telugu Desam Party MLA Bonda Umamaheshwar Rao, when Sai was 2. Kumar wrote his house in Vijayawada to Sai but since she was a minor it was still under his name.

She wanted to raise the money by selling the house but followers of the MLA, who forcibly occupied the house, prevented her from doing so, she alleged.

“That is why Sai Sri appealed to her father to sell the house for her treatment. Now, my daughter is dead. And he did not even come to see the deceased daughter,” Suma said.

Vijayawada Police commissioner Gautam Sawang assured Suma he would look into the case. Though a case was registered against Kumar and his friends on the charges of intimidating Suma, no arrests have been made so far.

Andhra Pradesh Child Rights Association, which got a clipping of this video, brought it to the notice of the State Human Rights Commission seeking action against Kumar for denying his daughter the right to live.

“This is highly inhuman and atrocious. As a biological father, he has the responsibility to take care of his daughter,” association’s honorary president P Achyuta Rao told the Hindustan Times.

The SHRC has asked the police commissioner for a report by July 20.

To be honest, I do not feel sorry for the child. God did the best for her, for He knew her sufferings will be worst in the hands of her monster, greedy, power hungry father. Mother too has played a very disturbing part in it. If it was true love for child, she should have brought this incident before child's death. Now, she is taking advantage of child's death to take revenge on her husband. Ministers build bus worth crores of rupees from tax payers money for them and for their family. Look at the condition of poor people. Everything is self centered.

If you do not wish to take of your child financially and give the child love and care, then why bring them into this world? Is it for momentary bodily pleasure ?

Why the hell are we celebrating Father's Day is not understandable. People will lose faith in the concept called Dad/Papa/Father.

Woe to those who neglect their daughters. Mr Kumar should be booked under the Girl Child Act (if there is any such act).

Vijayawada did not have good Samaritan media like Daijiworld and generous people like Mangalore.

Sad to hear the story of this 13 years girl Sai Sri. Everything is over for this girl. What one has to learn is to show humanity to others in our own way, so that girl like Sai Sri is not going to die at this tender age but will play with her pals, go to school and live a normal life.

    RIP Sai Sri.

First, put the mother in behind the bar because she played a big role in death of cute baby. Second, she is now playing with her separated husband to get huge amount/property showing video to the world.
In this current YUG all the Doctors are not a Doctor like back in 1980-90s. Every Doctor is looking to suck blood/money from the people.

After all, this is a BUSINESS time for all the Doctors.

With out reading the article , please do not drag the mother for this child death.
Who can separate the bond of the daughter and the father. Not even God.

It is absoulutely the mistake of the father neglecting her own daughter. No concerned mother will play politics at the cost of her own daughter.

Now she has to go all out to claim the property share of her husband as he has not taken care of their daughter.

    Dear Harold,
I agree with you but you can't say without reading the article.
Just imagine, since the child was in very critical stage from the years, why she didn't go thru legally to obtain a financial help from her separated husband for child's treatment, why only after death of the child she is coming out to public.
Do you think that you are intelligent and others are fool!!

"She added she separated from Kumar.....when child was 2 years old", i.e. she separated from husband 11 years back... since she separated from husband, it is wife's responsibility to ensure that children are either given to their father, or if she keeps custody, she has to ensure their proper care on her own.

Wife cannot expect a ex-husband whom she has deserted 11 years back to help her...

Isn't it the responsibility of the father to provide for his daughters. Are his responsibilities over after they separated? He is a rascal. Her mother must have done her best. If she does not have the money, she will go to her ex-husband only for help for their daughter.

I have always maintained that politicians sells their souls to the devil; 99.99% of the time. And politicians do not let their wives, children, mothers, fathers, brothers or sisters interfere in their dance with the devil.

I find it so disturbing to say RIP to the little girl, as she resembles my ten year old.

@Harish Hegde, mangalore, your question is quite good one.But sometimes doctors are not in a position in govt.hospitals to help.first because there comes many of such cases.whoom will they ?second, for this bone marrow to get, have to test many people, people should be paid ,hospital personal, blood transfusionetc too are costlier.complete old blood to be exchanged too cost a lot. Many proceedures are necessary for this.I find as father he never came to visit his child is not to forgive.Heartless father. Now after her death mother puts video in net, what purpose ?To expose father?Find it un acceptable.Or make money out of it.Not a good idea.Poor little child must have suffered a lot.May her soul rest in Heaven in peace.
