Ajman: Gulf Medical University to host 'School Counsellors' meet

Ajman, Apr 25: Gulf Medical University (GMU) will be hosting the first UAE 'School Counselors' meet at its campus on Thursday April 27 from 10am to 1.00 pm. The meet is expected to attract over 400 school counselors and senior teachers from all over UAE. It will also involve a panel discussion on 'Is the present education system
preparing students to face the challenges of tomorrow?'

Our aim is to introduce the state of the art facilities at our university and to present an insight into the academic activities of the institution. The meet will give everyone a chance to exchange opinions in the current and future directions of the educational system," said professor Hossam Hamdy, chancellor of the university. "We would like to take the opportunity to honor some of the leading school counsellors during the meet," he added.

All the delegates will have a chance to interact with the academic leadership of the university. The counsellors will have an interactive session with the deans of constituent colleges of the university to understand the various programmes that are offered by each college. The session will facilitate an exchange of ideas allowing education providers to make a strong case for their admissions procedures, quality of academics, faculty etc to the professionals who play a pivotal role as influencers and guidance counsellors to students.

The meet will also have a panel discussion on ‘Is the present education system preparing students to face the challenges of tomorrow?’ The panelists will include Ministry of Education officials, educationists, psychologists, parents and students. Leading psychologists like Dr Mandy Ewen, assistant professor, Educational Psychology College of Education, Zayed University, Dubai campus, Dr Smitha Dev, psychology course coordinator, assistant professor of Psychology Abu Dhabi University, Srivalsan Murugan, principal Our Own English High School Sharjah and the academic leadership of the Gulf Medical University will participate in the panel discussion.

The meeting will end with a special networking lunch.
