Kasargod, Apr 22: In a tragic incident which happened over Chandragiri bridge on Kanhangad-Kasargod state highway on Saturday April 22 morning, a truck turned turtle after the driver lost control over it. Unfortunately, the driver fell into the river and drowned. The spare driver, who was also with the ill-fated driver in the vehicle, survived with minor injuries.

The deceased driver was Nasser (36) from Punnapra in Alappuzha. The driver who had providential escape happens to be Harris (35). The accident occurred at around 5 am on Saturday.

It is said that the truck, loaded with fish from Goa, was moving to Alappuzha. When trying to avoid colliding with an auto rickshaw coming from opposite direction, the truck hit the protective railing of the bridge before tumbling with its wheels facing the sky. While the driver fell down into the river, luckily the truck remained on the bridge.

The fire brigade, coastal security force police, and locals reached the spot immediately after coming to know of the accident and searched for the driver but failed to locate him. After a few hours, his body was found floating in the river at Chemnad. The mortal remains of the driver were retrieved and kept in the mortuary of the general hospital here.

It is gathered that family members and relatives of the ill-fated driver have left Alappuzha for the town. On account of this accident on the bridge, traffic on this road was disrupted for a few hours before the road was cleared.
