Chicago, Apr 18: Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association celebrated Easter with great pomp at Courtland Square Club House in Des Plaines, Illinois. The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death.

It was a wonderful break for Chicagoans weather-wise and it seemed like the month of June, warm and pleasant and a good welcome for Easter celebrations.

The celebration was initiated with Mass offered by Fr Henry Sequeira. The Mass commenced with the burning of incense, lighting of Easter candle, and blessing of Holy Water. Fr Sequeira in his powerful sermon reminded devotees that Christ gave his life as a sign of His greatest love to humanity. He compared His life to the fable of the Phoenix and said, "With His resurrection, he gave the gift of eternal life to humanity."

The Holy Eucharistic celebration was held in Konkani with hymns in Konkani and English, headed by MKCA choir group. The music to the choir was provided by Concy Mesquita on piano, Suraj Mesquita on flute, and Sarah Mathias on violin. All attendees exchanged Easter greetings with each other.

The MKCA president, Vissia D’Souza welcomed the gathering and introduced to the gathering MKCA executive committee members, and the event chairpersons Sal and Florine Rodrigues. All participants enjoyed the traditional snacks and open bar. Games for children and adults were conducted by Crystal Rodrigues and Queenie Mendonca. These included  Easter Bunny Hop for children, Pick a Jelly Bean for women and one for men, and Jelly Bean Count for all age groups was held. Rayan D’Souza, Dr Merlyn D’Souza, Ullas D’Souza, and Suman Mathias emerged winners in the games.

Children were thrilled to see the arrival of Easter Bunny with Easter goodie bags and the Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Bunny entertained the children with high fives and photo shoots.

The organisers provided a sumptuous dinner consisting of special Mangalorean items.

The emcee of the program Queenie Mendonca and Crystal Rodrigues entertained the crowd and made this programme a memorable one. Florine thanked the guests and members, for making this programme a great success, extending help to the organisers and enthusiastically participating in the celebrations.  All the participants danced to the tunes of  Konkan, Spanish, Hindi and English songs provided by DJ Joey Mendonca.
