Dubai, Apr 14: Perfect weather greeted more than 75 people to the annual sports spirit of the day held at Zabeel Park on April 7. The day began with a short welcome speech by Dharmendra Bangera who thanked all the members present. This was followed by a lip-smacking weekend breakfast of idli and vada sambhar and steaming hot tea/ coffee.
An ice-breaker session of laughter yoga was led by Rajesh Pallikere, who combined a few laughter exercises with pranayama (breathing exercises) to kickstart good mood and energize all the participants. Everyone enjoyed the session and had lots of fun.
All the members including kids and adults participated with great enthusiasm in the activities that followed. The first event for the children was running race with junior athletes sprinting across the tracks. Their adorable smiles never faded for a moment. Crawling race was the next event which saw all the children crawl military style.
Races for adults such as sprint, lemon-n-spoon, book balancing, skipping race were next in line to stir up a lot of excitement. It was very heartwarming to watch, as members of all ages participated enthusiastically in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Couples participated in the three-legged race which was a neck-and-neck competition as all the couples put in their best efforts.
The next event, Kabaddi injected an element of thrill and enthusiasm with young players putting up a good show of strength and athleticism. Both the teams went all-out into attack and put up a tough fight. The competitive spirit among the participants was evident and made the day extremely interesting and captivating for everyone witnessing the game.
A sumptuous spread of Mangalurean delicacies like kori-roti, kori sukka, kadale-manoli, sambhar and mota rice was served to all the guests. An exciting game of Bingo was played post-lunch.
The highlight of the day was Tug-of-War between the gents and ladies which was a moment to savor and enjoy.
Raffle draw winners were announced and prizes were distributed on the spot. Prizes included tab (Shekhar Amin), LG Sound Bar (Geeta Rajesh), smartphone (Aashka Karkera). Prize distribution, for All the winners and runners up were congratulated and awarded with certificates for their achievements in respective events during prize distribution. The overall rolling trophy was bagged by the winning team of Kabaddi, but regardless of who won, all were winners.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dharmendra Bangera, who applauded all those who took part in the activities. It was a memorable day and fun it certainly was for both the spectators and participants. All the participants and volunteers were thanked for making the event one to remember.
