Kundapur: Temporary shelter for migrant labourers – Shilpa Nag holds inspection

Kundapur, Apr 1: Kundapur sub-divisional officer Shilpa Nag conducted an inspection for the temporary shelter that will be set up for homeless migrant workers from other districts and states. The examination of the place was held with officials, on Friday, March 31.

Hundreds of migrant labourers from outside the district and state have been staying in Kundapur at night. Shilpa Nag observed these workers did not have a suitable place to stay and considered providing temporary shelter for them, on directions of the district administration and help from Kundapur town municipal council.





The inspection was conducted soon after deciding to provide special night shelter for a temporary stay of the workers at night on the second floor of a commercial complex in new bus stand constructed by Kundapur town municipal council. She also held discussions on provision of toilets, electricity among other facilities, during their stay.

Shilpa Nag also visited school premises at Nehru Maidan on Thursday night, March 30, and listened to the grievances of the workers sleeping there. She informed them that she has brought to the notice of the district administration their plight and suitable arrangements will be made for them. She assured that a temporary shelter would be made for women to rest in a portion of the present resident school.

She added that a building would be constructed for migrant labourers in 35 cents land identified for the purpose.

Gopalakrishna Shetty, chief official of municipal council, Kundapur police station SI E Nasir Hussain, district labour officer Vishwanath, labour inspector Satyanarayana B S, social worker Hussain Haikadi and others were present at the inspection.
