Beltangady: No Rs 3 change- Bus conductor forces passenger to get down in ghat area

Daijiworld Media Network- Beltangady (RJP)

Beltangady, Mar 28: In an inhuman act, a bus conductor forced a passenger to get down from the bus in a ghat area for not giving him Rs 3 change.

Abdul Hamid Musliyar is the passenger who went through this ordeal.

As per details available, Abdul Hamid was travelling from Kottigehara to his home in Kakkinje on Sunday, March 26 by a KSRTC bus. The bus bearing number KA 19 F 3175 belonged to B C Road depot and was plying between Davanagere and Mangaluru. Abdul gave a note of Rs 50 to buy the ticket costing Rs 33. The conductor returned Rs 20 and said Abdul should give him Rs 3 balance. Abdul said that he did not have Rs 3 change.

Abdul and conductor Srikanth Pategar had arguments on the issue for some minutes. The bus had reached 6 kilometres from Kottigehara by then. Unhappy over not getting Rs 3 , Srikanth asked Abdul to get down from the bus in the ghat area. Without any options, Abdul got down and waved for passing vehicles for help. Many did not stop, but a vehicle took him to Kottigehara later.

Abdul Hamid said that he complained to the Kottigehara police station regarding the matter and action is yet to be taken against the conductor. People at B C Road depot said that they have not received any complaint and investigation will be done upon receiving complaint.

Few decades earlier when travel was cheap n there was scarcity of small change, there was s system in vogue in BEST buses in Mumbai, wherein the conductor would mention the due amount on the tickets with his signature, and the passengers could collect the same from their office later!

In this case, either, the passenger should not have got off the bus or let go the 3 bucks considering the hardship he would have to undergo if he got down in a deserted place!

Passenger is penny wise pound foolish and also egoistic, though the conductor also is at fault!

One should handle such petty issues with tact while weighing the pros n cons instead of acting like a ROBOT!!

What does by bus conductor is absolutely wrong. Should carry smaller denominations by conductor while boarding the bus. Some times passengers borrow money while travelling in an hurry. Would have helped by co-passengers in this regard. We only see one side. What did abdul coommented by which conductor become furious and forced him to get down. Here both are wrong. Both are having hyper tension.should take propper treatment and avoid beef.

Because of Rs.3,bus conductor did is unpardonable.letting the passenger get down at Ghats ,middle of road, hardly any vehicle passing is sure not to accept. He could have had enough change in his pocket earlier, because he knows everyone bringsout only notes.Otherside passengers too better caryy some changes when travelling to avoid some trouble. Many conductors are not either give back changes .or give back less.He could have made passenger to give the rest money before he alights down.some are doing this.when such a act from conductor happened some years abck, next day some youngsters would have gathered and pulled him out from bus and thrashed him blue and black.I wonder why the passenger not bring some change as he came. One knows what does it costs suppose a daily traveller is.unfortunate act.Nowadays everyone gives only notes and expect from conductor give change.Better in future pay per electronic.I dont know how far these buses are for electronc cash provided .Not all passengers can do this .but comprimiss can be done.he could have taken change from other passengers or give 5ruppes to conductor to avoid all thes problems. But acomplain should be made on conductor and action should be taken .otherwise this bus should be avoided.

The passenger has paid (Rs. 50) more than ticket amount (Rs 33), then how can conductor ask him to get down from bus. From this story it looks like conductor is at fault. But just for Rs 3 asking the passenger to de-board is wrong. I have seen many a times rude behaviour by conductors in private bus also where they shout at passenger if change is not given to them. This is not right, they should be taken to task.

KSRTC conductors are frustrated unlike earlier they were not giving change back or not issuing tickets for all passengers it had been highlighted in may news papers in those days 1985,1988 etc.

    Now the scenario is different.

If they don't give ticket, Nobody will give money.

    @ Edmond,
I do not remember having travelled in KSRTC buses for the past 50 years. In 60's I had gone to Balehonnur/Niduwale for some of my friends wedding. Earlier I used to go to coffee estates in my fathers lorry, those olden days when I was in highschool.

If such rude treatment is shown by the conductors the public should join and show some corrective measures. But who will take interest. Such behaviour is not good at all. I was expressing my feelings because it could have been better resolving the issue rather than being arrogant and moreovr I know that ghat section so isolated.

Abdul Hameed, could have given Rs. 5 or 10 just to avoid hullabaloo and inconvenience. Sometimes we need to work out sensibly rather than arrogantly. The matter could have been settled once you reached your point of destination. Small issue blown out of proportion. Even the conductor should have resolved the issue in a better understanding way.

Flavian, Mangalore/Kuwait : I am not sure whether you have travelled in KSRTC buses in Mangalore for the last 4 years. The service provided by them is getting worst day by day. If you don't do what the conductor say then they use abusive language at the passenger. They also act like its our duty to call conductor to the front part of the Bus if you want the ticket to be taken. and they definitely wont walk till the front part. That's how we have the KSRTC buses now. Not sure how to say this, whether this is because of the Government ruling in Karnataka. Prior to this government the service of the buses was pretty good. Now we don't fid the conductors from Coastal area. All are from northern part of Karnataka.

I cant blame the conductor over here. If you want to travel from one place to other on a bus please carry change. here Abdul should have had change with him. If the conductor had no change then, Abdul should have given the full 50 rupees as fare. for just 18 rupees he had to go through all this hassle.

An inhuman act for sure! Why write to Modi alone, victim should write to state CM, Transportation minister and CEO of KSRTC as well in order to bring down charbi of the conductor! I agree with Jossy! Can this conductor afford to do this with BD or similar outfit member? If minority man had done it majority member, news would have been blown out of proportion and may be fire loss to KSRTC and indirectly hole in the pocket of every tax payer!! We preach communal harmony but it is for others to practice!!

Regarding " burning, Priests beaten up & Nuns raped"... it's a major subject and can not be debated. We can also bring you a list of temples demolished... hindus raped... that will be a never ending story.... you may enjoy doing it... we have better jobs than getting in to the debate ... but one thing is sure... because of few people like you this caste and religion issue is never allowed to be resolved. You enjoy communalizing each and every subject and spread hatred. Hats off to you and your Christianity sir...
