Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 24: State home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, told the legislative council on Thursday March 23 that during the last three years, 52 police personnel from the state had ended their lives.

"11 committed suicides in 2014, while we saw 21 police suicides during 2015, with 17 ending lives in 2016. Till February 2017, three took away their lives, bringing the total to 52. Family disputes, love affair, excessive burden of debt, frustration with life etc were the reasons for these suicides. Considering this, the government has undertaken the measures of providing training in Yoga, medication, participation in sports and cultural activities, personal counselling etc. During the weekly drill, grievances of the staff are heard. Steps have been taken to regularly conduct health check up of the staff towards improving their health condition," the minister said, in reply to a question raised by Abdl Jabbar, a Congress legislator.

In his written reply, the minister told BJP MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, that during the last four years, 24,285 cases of atrocities on women and 3,985 relating to atrocities on children were registered. He also told Congress MLC, Rizwan Arshad, that there has been an increase in cases pertaining to atrocities on children including under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The figures under this head are 439 in 2013, 995 in 2014, 884 in 2015, 1,394 in 2016 and 274 till February 2017.

During the BJP regime several chaddiwalas made their way to the Police. They continued to be faithful to their old bosses in spite of several warnings on their communal leanings. Most of these police men were recruited during the BJP regime. Any youngman who was in the R.. was recruited to support the BJP agenda. Besides every recruit had to pay a certain amount to get into the force. Congress wanted these to be more secular and give up their anti-minority hate. Many are frustrated since the Congress has stopped several anti-people activities of these communal police. One of the reason for the increasing suicides is lack of bribe and hence helplessness to repay the loans taken to pay the amount for recruitment. BJP was the worst government the state had as far as corruption and communalism was concerned. At least the Congress is trying to address the issue.
