Bengaluru: House committee to regulate 'irresponsible' media which cross limits

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 23: After legislators from across the parties came together on Wednesday March 22 to accuse the media of transgressing limits of decency and decorum, besides often becoming irresponsible and indulging in character assassination of honourable persons, assembly speaker, K B Koliwad, announced that he would be setting up a house committee to draft rules and regulations to ensure that the media houses function within their limits.

The legislators who spoke in both houses of the state legislature were particularly critical of some electronic media for encroaching upon fundamental rights of individuals by crossing their limits. They accused the media of trying to become judgmental about the character of public personalities and also trying to blackmail them. "Some of the media have been spreading news which can be detrimental to the peace and health of the society. There is an urgent need to block their efforts to indulge in personal glorification through suitable laws," many of them said.

Some of the speakers agreed that there are many good persons in media who adhere to principles and professional ethics and they have high respect for these people. At the same time, they showed concern at the increasing number of media representatives who manufacture news in order to gain by way of TRP.

Some speakers who poured out their anger and impatience about some of the electronic media wanted to question the source of wealth and properties accumulated by the owners of certain media houses. "At district level, some reporters of electronic media have formed a mafia and are indulging in business," some of them stated.

Some of the legislators addressed media persons in singular for shedding sense of respect and shame when creating fake news. The legislators were also angry at the fact that some of the media have been functioning as complainants, advocates, and judges, by sitting inside their air-conditioned cabins. They challenged these porters to fight elections like the MLAs and show their mettle.

As the speaker was lenient in allowing the members to go on speaking out their minds on this issue under a rule that provides for discussing issues of public importance, the legislators lapped up the opportunity and poured out their anger for about four hours, at the end of which the speaker said he would form a house committee for drafting suitable rules to contain the media from going overboard.

True journalism became thing of the past. Today's journalism far away from the ethics of journalism.
In the past advertising remain major part of profit which is now taken over paid media of political elite and corporate barons.

“Owning a news entity has become a practical necessity for political parties in India,” .Although India is heralded as the promised land of journalism, with more than 80,000 print publications and close to 400 news channels—at a time when the media industry elsewhere faces shrinkage and uncertainty—recent events underscore that the huge number of outlets do not guarantee widespread independent coverage in the world’s largest democracy.
Indian Journalism Under Increasing Political Control.India ranks abysmally low at 133 among 180 countries in the latest annual World Press Freedom Index, which says Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems “indifferent” to the threats against journalists.Five ethical problems that plague Indian journalism.
    1.Paid News
    2. Opaque private treaties
    3.Blatant blackmail
    4. Widening legal regulatory gap
    5. Flawed measurements of audience reach and readership
A global study warns that India's media boom will be worthless unless these issues are fixed soon.

Apart from mass media, a social media is biggest threat to unity of this country. Most exist in fake identity all most every website with country of origin not even India.

Like West Bengal Fatwa reporting mass media is also responsible for spreading fake news which never existed. Journalism plays an important role in building nation.

Many of media is quick to make covering page on issues like 'triple talaq' which is completely a religious matter than government. But fail to address dowry, unemployment, inequality, sexual abuse, prostitution, female feticide etc.

"Ratings don't last. Good Journalism does".

Media is an organisation that gives the real picture of the situation.
    What is now in India
Media is stolen by political agencies, and its affiliates to steel the show.

Now we see the elections are won not because of truth, forfeited documentation lies are at work. There is an organisation created by these parties to make and bluff the people, steel the mindset of people and change the direction to there own agenda.

Who are these organisations and who formed this, how it works only at election time more swiftly and accurately. British media in early 19s they won a loosing war also, by broadcasting 10,000 opposition soldiers killed, we captured this city, thousands of peoples are following on our side etc.......

This is a game, not a victory, one should decide what is correct. At this point of time it is very much needed to undergo a real check of internet media.

Media never goes overboard and they always focus on original. Because of media, common man in remote area also can understand what is going on in today's world. Media is responsible in creating awareness about corruption, black money and so many CD's being made public and exposed them. Media played a pivotal role in general public's life who were falling prey to political gimmicks.
