Bantwal: Youth abducted, rescued - teams combing hilly terrain

Bantwal, Mar 20: A gang that arrived in a car abducted a youth from Okkettoor near Vittal on Sunday March 19. 30-year-old Monu alias Razak, residing near Kambalabettu Dargah was the man who was kidnapped by the said gang.

Razak was travelling in a motor bike with his friend, Mansoor. When the motor bike was in Okkettoor, a gang which came from the direction of Vittal kidnapped the youth and fled towards Mangaluru in the car, as per information. People known to Monu immediately informed Vittal police station about the incident after which the police teams got into the task of finding out the culprits. As they got information that the gang moved towards Nelyadi, the police conveyed information to the police there.

Barricades were set up at various places in order to screen the vehicles moving through these points. Senior police officers got involved with guiding the operation. As per the details provided by Razak, the abduction was executed by Jogi Haneef and two others. Eyewitnesses said said one of the gang members was flashing a sword.

As per information received by the police later, the car carrying Razak actually proceeded to B C Road and moved to Mangaluru via Bajpe. The vehicle was intercepted by the police near Deralakatte, but it is said that the accused succeeded in giving the police a slip and escaping through hilly area.

Before fleeing the kidnappers left the victim seriously injured. The police admitted the injured youth into a hospital at Deralakatte. He has suffered injuries to his leg made from sharp curved spikes used during cockfight.

Special teams comprising police personnel from Vittal and other stations have been undertaking operation in the hilly areas of the region in an effort to nab the culprits. Deputy superintendent of police from Bantwal has been guiding the police teams.

It is said that a couple of days back, Haneef had been attacked, and the current abduction and attack was undertaken to avenge that incident. The previous attack had taken place near Hotel Spice at Vittal on Friday night.
