Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 25: As the Apostolic Carmelite (AC) congregation marches towards its 150 years of its origin, the congregation is set to donate 150 houses for the homeless poor to celebrate its sesquicentennial. This initiative was suggested by the superior general, Sr M Susheela. Each province was given 25 houses to be completed by July 2018.

The Karnataka province has already made a selection of 25 houses spread throughout Karnataka – Bengaluru, Nanjangudu, Bidar, Lingsugur, Gangolli, Kundapur, Mysuru, Modankap, Moodbidri and Mangaluru. All the convents pooled together their savings towards and the province has already completed 15 houses with families occupying these. Eight houses are under construction and two more houses are yet to be started. The province hopes to complete this wonderful project by the end of December 2017.

Many joined with helping hands for the noble venture and contributed their mite. Three convents and the institutions in the campus namely St Agnes, St Mary’s and St Ann’s organised fetes, an entertainment evening of Tulu drama and visited several people of goodwill to request for help.

Others, in their own innovative way have tried to make this dream a reality.

The Apostolic Carmel Congregation is spread over eight countries, with 188 houses and over 1700 sisters who have dedicated their lives for the cause of humanity especially through education. Crores of families have seen better days with the gift of education.

In Karnataka alone the congregation runs 67 institutions with 28439 students studying at present in their schools and colleges.

St Ann’s Teacher Training Institution which completed 125 years, has trained over 7000 teachers and gifted them to the nation and the world. St Ann’s College of Education which is marching towards its platinum jubilee has sent out thousands of teachers and teacher educators.

St Agnes College, a pioneering college for women is moving towards its centenary and has contributed women of calibre to the nation and the world as teachers, doctors, engineers, researchers , entrepreneurs among other professions.

A noble cause. Some times when a celebration of some parish or priest is to be celebrated, they try to build a hall etc.I find instead of such thoughts ,something to the poor like this is very appriciated.wish you all the best ,and congratulations.

Fantastic achievement on the part of Apostolic Carmelite Nuns to donate 150 homes for the needy and deserving families in and around Mangalore. These 150 families who are the beneficiaries of the kind hearted gesture will always remain grateful to the Apostolic Carmelite Nuns, and this kindness will spread to many other congregations so that many more families will be benefitted sooner or later.

This gesture of kindness makes all of us more conscious of our own dedication towards life, and we are tempted to learn from this act of goodness so that we too can join the band wagon and help many others that are waiting in line.

This is the best news we have heard from the Nuns, and we pray to God to give the nuns best of continued thoughts so that many others can also come forward and see how each of us can render that hand of help. If every wealthy and healthy family can give one additional house to a needy and deserving homeless, Indian can help 30 million homeless people to have a decent shelter within 30 months at the most.

This act will be a part and portion of our "Bhakti Dhaan", "Shakti Dhaan" as well as "Preety Dhaan". May God help us all to open our hearts and our minds for a deserving cause. "Dhanyawadh".

If all these religious institutions change their mind no one will be homeless in this world..... at present these churches, temples, mosques, gurudwaras are only asking donations and the managing committee is becoming rich and rich..... if this money lying in temples, churches, mosques etc used for the benefit of needed I think there will be no poor.
