Udupi, Feb 15: Kirik Keerti fame, social media activist Keerthi Shankaraghata formally inaugurated new fish drying unit ‘Fenix’ by lighting the lamp near Little Rock English medium school, Kunjalu on Tuesday, February 14.

In his inaugural address, Keerthi said, “Dry fish products have a huge demand in various cities and foreign countries. People will always welcome innovative, eco-friendly and hygienic products. Dry fish marketing is a good business, and it provides job opportunity for locals.”

"I will support this product in my best possible way by promoting it. I will help to connect supermarkets to sell their dry fish products in and around Bengaluru city.”

Let this unit develop in a larger way and shine at the international level,” he wished.

Former MLA Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the fish drying machine by cutting the ribbon. Speaking on occasion, he said, "Fishermen need a good market to sell the fishes. In Coastal district, fishers always use the traditional way of drying. There is only one advanced technology at Malpe fish mill. Expect that customers have no other option available in Udupi.”

The factory focuses on health, quality assurance and friendly work ethics. The unit has been built at the cost of Rs 40 lacs. The plant uses advanced technologies for salting, de-moisture of fish and then, drying.

The partner of the Unit Sudesh Shetty wants to introduce their brand in the international level market and has planned to export dry fish products in future.

Best wishes to Sudesh Shetty for coming up with this innovative idea.

I hope only fresh fish will be processed at this unit, since refrigeration and other preservation systems are not really that good in the region, in addition to the distance from sea to Kunjalu.
