Mangaluru, Jan 30: The third edition of Konkani Rock Show presented by Teetotalers - the only Konkani Rock Band, weaved magic on the specially built stage at St Agnes Special School Grounds on Sunday, January 29. The show was staged for a noble cause to support White Doves, an NGO that aids and rehabilitates people with special needs, for setting up a speciality building for the destitute at Bikarnakatta in city.

In a brief stage function held before the rock show, MLA J R Lobo, city police commissioner Chandra Shekar, Louis J Pinto from Mandd Sobhann, Corrine and Vitus Rasquinha from White Doves, Sr Shruthi from St Agnes Special School, Dilraj Rodrigues and Roshan D’Souza from Teetotallers and Charisma D’Silva from Mangalore Ladies Circle - 82 graced the dais.

Louis Pinto speaking on the occasion said “Music should move on with time. There should be new blood coming into music and new ideas should be brought in always. There are three institutions which made Konkani music rich in our land. The first is the diocese of Mangaluru, which gave chance to people to learn Konkani music through liturgy. The second is Konkani Natak Sabha which gave platform to musicians for the past seven decades through its music competitions. There may not be a single musician who has not participated at Don Bosco Hall. The third is Mandd Sobhann which took Konkani to global level through its various projects in the past thirty years. I am happy to see Teetotallers doing some innovations and going by the number of people gathered here, I am sure that the show is a huge hit.”

J R Lobo commended White Doves for its selfless service. “I feel that I should do more for your cause of building facilities for downtrodden and destitute. I make it a point now and promise that I would do everything possible from the government to help this noble cause.”

Chandra Shekar said “I have seen how White Doves help people. Corrine does it with utmost love of people. Caring for the humankind is real love of God. There cannot be anything greater than love of your neighbour on earth. What is life without it after all? We, the ordinary people like me and you, too have social responsibility to care for humankind in our own way and as much as we can. We cannot serve the way Corrine does. But we can and should serve the least in by doing smaller things in our own way with love of humanity.”

Corrine thanked all and said “Service of least, last and lost should be main motto of every one in life. God has given us different talents in different ways. Let us not hide those talents, but utilise them.”

Musicians F M Lobo and Jerome Coelho were felicitated for their contribution to music.

Titus Noronha compered the stage function with his impeccable Konkani with the aid of poetry in between.
