Mangaluru: Tulu film 'Madipu' to be screened at BIFF

Mangaluru, Jan 24: In what can be called a proud moment for coastal Karnataka, Tuluvas and coastalwood, director Chethan Mundadi's debut Tulu film 'Madipu' is all set to be screened at the 9th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFF) which will be held from February 2 to 9.

'Madipu' has been nominated in the Unsung Incredible India category which has been created to showcase movies from Indian dialects like Tulu, Kodava from Karnataka and others from all over India. The nominated films will be screened in Bengaluru or Mysuru.

Chethan, a veteran of 15 years in the film industry, has worked as an art director for Kannada films like Apthamitra and Kariya, reality shows like SaReGaMaPa and Comedy Khiladigalu and over 60 other TV programmes.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com, Chethan said, "It is a proud moment for me and the entire team behind Madipu. The film potrays Tulu culture. The audience watching the movie will see the real 'Tulunaadu' at its best".

The film produced by Sandeep Kumar Nandalike is based on a real incident which took place in Beltangady 50 years ago. ‘Madipu' focuses on Bhootharadhane or Bhootha Kola and the relationship of Hindus and Muslims. The film shows how a person who has made the worship a part of his life goes into depression when he steps out of it, the story also rolls towards racism and spirituality. The movie has been shot in and around Karkala, Punjalkatte, Sauthadka and Beltangady.

While H Girish Rao alias Jogi has penned the dialogues for the film, ace music director from Sandalwood V Manohar has composed the music.
Editing has been handled by Srikanth and cinematography by Ganesh Hegde.

Sardar Sathya, Ila Vitla, MK Mata, Dr Seetha Kote, Nagaraja Rao, Chetan Rai Kini, Sujatha Shetty, Hanumanthappa, Jyothi Rai, Baby Shreya and Dayanand Bettapadi form the cast of 'Madipu'.

The film's audio will be released in the first week of February, while the movie is expected to be released on February 10.
