Mangaluru, Jan 20: The Indian Railways had announced that it would operate day train between the city and Bengaluru via Hassan and Mysuru, in 2014. It said finally that it would be fulfilling this promise this year, and the train will begin to chug from March 1 onward.

This train had been sanctioned during the interim railway budget presented in 2014. As per the time table released thereafter, the train was to leave Bengaluru at 8.30 am every day and reach the city at 9.15 pm. Likewise, the train which was o leave the city at 6.30 am, was to leave Bengaluru at 7.30 pm.

After Udupi Railway Ytri Sangha filed writ petition in the high court, having been frustrated at the fact that the railway had failed to meet its promise, the department had been postponing the move. However, after the judge issued a warning, the railways told the high court that the operation of the train would start before March 31, 2017.

In a release, president of the Sangha, R L Dias, noting that the railway officials have announced that the train would commence operations on March 1, termed it as a victory for the initiatives undertaken by the Sangha.
