Jodhpur: Arms Act case - Salman Khan gets benefit of doubt, acquitted

Jodhpur, Jan 18 (IANS): Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was on Wednesday acquitted by a court here in an Arms Act case in which he is alleged to have killed blackbucks in 1998.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Dalpat Singh Rajpurohit, after completing the hearing on January 9 in the case, had reserved the judgement for Wednesday.

Salman Khan and his sister Alvira were present in the court when it announced the actor not guilty.

Salman Khan and a few other Bollywood actors were accused of poaching blackbucks on the night of October 1, 1998 during the shooting of Hindi movie "Hum Saath Saath Hain".

The actor was also accused of carrying and using illegal arms. A case under the Arms Act was registered against him.

Police had a hard time controlling the actor's supporters in the court premises. Many carried the actor's pictures.

The Rajasthan High Court in July last year had acquitted Salman Khan in another case, also related to the chinkara poaching.

Salman Khan had moved the Jodhpur bench of the High Court, challenging a lower court verdict handing him a one and a five-year term in two separate cases of poaching.

He was held guilty by the lower court and sentenced in 2006.

Salman Khan and the state government challenged the lower court verdict on various grounds.

In July 2016, the High Court, while allowing the appeal of Salman Khan, acquitted him from all the charges and also dismissed the appeal filed by the state government to enhance the sentence.

The Rajasthan government filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the actor's acquittal.

Before this, Khan had appeared in the court on March 10 last year for recording of his statements, wherein he had pleaded innocence and had stated that he had been framed in the case by the forest department.

Salman Khan later thanked his supporters.

"Thank you for all the support and good wishes," Salman tweeted.

Politicians and lawyers are no different in India. Out of 10, 9 are corrupted and 1 good.
Salman khan has become a new word for innocence in India.
Even if he kills a Human or Animal in front of 100’s of people our incompetent system fails to prove it. Mera Bharath Mahan!!!
This is one of the reasons India will remain as it is for years, Decades or centuries to come.
Ohh yeah, you can fool yourself if you wish by chanting slogans like, “East of west India is the best”, “Mera Bharath Mahan”, “Sare jahan se accha, Hindusthan hamara”.
But the truth is something we all know. Injustice, Unhygienic, Potholes, Filthy public facilities, inhuman government services etc.

Either clear the charges or pass the verdict but dragging the case further is senseless. It's mental torture and waste of time and money.

Mr. Henry. The case was in 1998 and the verdict in 2017, During this incident and majority of this phase, the nation was ruled by the Congress , 10 years plus. Nothing happened, why did the non-corrupt party keep quiet? he was given bail after bail for each case. They watched his movies and danced to his tunes, Now suddenly you guys want the BJP PM to punish him. I dont think an Indian PM can influence a court decesion.
