Mangaluru: One dies on spot in jeep-tipper collision at Padil

Mangaluru, Jan 10: One person died on the spot in an accident under the Padil railway bridge here on Tuesday January 10.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammed Shakeel (35) from Udupi.

The accident took place between a jeep and a tipper, in which the jeep driver died.

The jeep, bearing Karwar registration, was coming from BC Road towards the city, while the tipper was plying from Mangaluru towards Kannur.

Shakeel, who was skilled at repairing of beds and sofas, was coming towards the city from BC Road for some work when his jeep collided with a tipper truck that was bound for Adyar-Kannur. Shakeel, who was seriously injured, had succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The tipper driver fled immediately after the accident. Shakeel is survived by wife and a daughter. The accident had blocked movement of vehicles for sometime before Kankanadi police arrived and cleared the over bridge for traffic.

The jeep was badly damaged in the accident.

Kankanady police arrived at the spot.
