Mangaluru: Pargavi Cordel holds Christmas Milan, donates to housing of needy

Mangaluru, Dec 26: The NRIs of Kulshekar origin under the banner ‘Pargavi Cordel’ donated Rs 4 lac for the housing of the needy during the Christmas Milan programme held at Cordel Church premises on Sunday December 25.

The programme was presided over by the parish priest of Cordel Church Fr Victor Machado. Speaking on the occasion Fr Machado said "This act has showcased the good nature of the NRI people of Cordel origin. Through this they have become a model to all of us. I thank them on behalf of the parish. Along with them, the ICYM members of the church have worked hard to put up this show. I call upon them to take such initiatives more and more. I thank everyone who has rendered his service in organising this programme."

The president of the ICYM Cordel Vivan Pinto welcomed the gathering while overseas co-ordinator of the programme Alexis Castelino rendered vote of thanks.

The dignitaries also honoured the talents of Kulshekar who have shined in the overseas countries and also the sponsors of the programme.

President of Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino, Congress leader Dennis D'Silva, Walter Nandalike from Daijiworld Media, , president of United Christians Association Alban Menezes, NRI Philanthropist Michael D’Souza, Kevin Misquith and general secretary of DK Youth Congress Sunith D'Sa were felicitated during the occasion.

During the event assistant parish priest Fr Paul Prakash released the new music CD ‘Ye Mojya Bhangara’ by Wilfy and Royston while the president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino released the teaser of the Konkani-Tulu movie ‘Ashen Zalen Kashen.’

A charity musical evening by Kevin Misquith along with his band Milestone was also held which mainly focused the singing and dancing talents from Kulshekar.

The singers from Kulshekar included Sunil Monteiro, Cynthis Latha, Velita Lobo, Ashwin D'Costa, Rynel Sequeira, NRI entrepreneur Joseph Mathias, Vanaia Lobo, Manfred Lobo, Sanil Fernandes along with the comedy skits from Valentine, Manoj, Roshan and Neville D'Costa.

Sandesh and Nixon choreographed the dances while Reena Castelino compered the programme.

The organisers said that the main intention of the show was to bring people of Cordel together who are scattered throughout the world. ‘Pargavi Cordel’ has the intention of helping needy people.

Reena Castelino was the cultural co-ordinator of the event.

    Great initiative of Cordel Parish as well as the youth to come forward with activities, the outcome of which will benefit various good causes that will benefit the needy.

    The group effort that will bring multitudes of side benefits to the needy people will bring new enthusiasm amongst the people of the Parish to work together and bring forward various worthy causes that will inspire many others.

    The needy and deserving causes in a country such as India are never ending and all the new initiatives from the Christian community will render new awareness amongst many others.

    Best of luck to Cordel Parish under the leadership of Fr. Machado, and the ultimate benefit will bring forward basket-full of benefits that many needy people will benefit.
