Chicago, Jun 28: The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association (MKCA), Chicago organized a fund raiser 'Seeds of Hope - 2016' – a charity event to support Shubhada (A Short Stay Home for the Women in distress), a human service project run by the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, in Mangaluru, India.

The project's main objective is to help women and girls who have been victimized in the society by way of molestation, violence, sexual abuse, exploitation and harassment; irrespective of caste, creed or their religious belief. Though the efforts are being made to reduce the atrocities against the women, the society has not fully risen to the welfare of the women and girls.

All women executive committee of MKCA under the dynamic leadership of president Vissia D'Souza with the support of Fr Richie Vaz, SVD and with strong collaboration of members from MKCA and friends turned fund raiser event into a friend raiser event. The atmosphere was thrilling and awesome with Bro Carl Gales SVD compeering the programme with his wit and humour.

The programme commenced by Vissia D’Souza welcoming the guests and enlightening them on the philanthropic service rendered by the Bethany Sisters of Shubhada to women and girls of the society in Mangaluru-India. The Bharata Natyam and Bollywood dances organized by Queenie Mendonca and performed by the students of Soorya dance school captured the hearts of the audience, leaving everyone awestruck. There were two generous donors ;Sun Set Foods' who provided for the event with variety of appetizers and yummy food; Gordon Food services with plentiful ice cream and beverages. There were variety of games, housie-housie and draw of raffle tickets. There was so much of excitement and fun all through the programme.

Then it was a time for big raffle draw. The three winners of the raffle draw bigheartedly donated the prize money to the charity.

The climax of the programme was winning new friends for the Mission of MKCA. 'Seeds of Hope', an evening of amusement, fun and entertainment came to a happy ending with Queenie Mendonca, secretary of MKCA thanking in a big way Sunset Foods, Northbrook and Gordon Food Services (GFS) for donating the food for a worthy cause. She expressed profound appreciation to the Management and Staff of Divine Word Mission Center for their support and cooperation in subsidizing this event and in turn contributing to the noble cause. What a great relief to read some good news like this? GOD bless all of you in your earnest efforts to give a new life for the hurting humanity.

Conrad Hilton was not born rich but poor, but his mother's spiritual influence to pray and work hard made him a very successful person in the business world. The national prayer breakfast of the U.S. started in 1953 while Dwight D. Eisenhower was the President was mainly through the vision and hard work Conrad Hilton and Dr. Billy Graham, at first in his Mayflower Hotel.

" Charity is the greatest channel through which the mercy of GOD is passed on to mankind". Conrad Hilton.

We pray for the suffering world, but the real display of GOD's mercy can be truly fulfilled when we release practical charity in our capacity anyway we can.

    Hearty Congratulations.

India has been gifted with people with talents and abilities in order to be creative wherever they are and whatever they do. "Seeds of Hope" is a classic example.

Indians have been blessed to be creative in their thoughts and deeds. More than twenty five million Indians scattered all over the world have so much to give back to the society that they belong to, and the community that they cling to.

Indians are well educated hence they are very entrepreneurial in all their deliberations especially outside India. Thousands of Temples, Churches and Mosques built by the Indians thru their own initiatives and private finances are thriving well with a display of faith and patriotism.

It is my prayer that these exemplary acts initiated by the Indians should move forward with greater enthusiasm so that our contributions are visible and appreciated wherever we are and whatever we do.

We all go in search of our daily bread, and once we have been able to accomplish our basic objectives we broaden our parameters of 'service' so as to help so many others that we surround with.

Seventy years of freedom from the British has enabled India to be on the forefront of success far and beyond our borders and we have blended so well with others in order to make a 'home away from home' wherever we are and whoever we are. "Dhanyawadh".

It was wonderful to read this article where people had gathered in a worthy endeavour of helping fellow humans instead of the hatred and vitriolic we get to read everyday. May the participants of MKCA be blessed with all that is good.
