Mangalore, Oct 30: Editor-In-Chief Walter D’Souza Nandalike, the brain behind the successful world-wide web-portal Daijiworld.com which links people of the West Coast of India to the rest of the world has been nominated for Pingara Kannada journal’s prestigious ‘Pingara Rajyotsava Award ’ for the year 2007.

The same award was presented to another noted philanthropist Dr Mohan Alva of Moodubidri last year.

Raymond D'Cunha, the editor of Pingara Kannada weekly announced the nomination of Walter Nandalike for the award on Monday October 29 at a press meet here.

Addressing the meet, D'Cunha while elaborating on the yeoman service and contribution made by the Daijiworld Editor-In-Chief informed that Walter Nandalike has been a true media revolutionary coming up with his dreamchild www.daijiworld.com, which today has risen to a stature of being one of the prime news portals found on this globe.  Walter has indeed, been the link conjoining Mangalore with the rest of the world, he glowingly declared.

Further he stated that it is owing to Daijiworld that lacs of Mangaloreans and people from other coastal districts, who are working abroad, are able to get first-hand information about the happenings in their native place within a few minutes. He is responsible for upholding the true spirit of love for one’s native place through this portal. It is due to his contribution and desire to link the world with Mangalore that he has been chosen to be honoured with this award" declared D’Cunha admiringly.

Walter Nandalike resides in Dubai with his wife and two kids. He has received several awards and honours for his revolutionary work through e-media from UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Mumbai, Mangalore and other parts of the world.

Walter Nandalike’s current designation is Managing Director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd and Editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com and tvdaijiworld.

Daijiworld.com has been household name among the people of coastal Karnataka, especially people who live outside India. The portal generates more than 100,000 individual viewers daily from around the globe and employs over two dozen dedicated staff within the city and more than 50 free-lancers in Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and the Gulf region.

Apart from speedy flashing of news from Mangalore and around the world, daijiworld.com has managed to find a special place in the hearts of its readers for initiating charity work for the needy irrespective of their caste, creed or colour. On the verge of its 8th successful year, Daijiworld portal is now a private limited company. Moreover, it is also the first to make a foray into the world of television with its tv daijiworld on the internet. This service is well-equipped with sophisticated in-house programme and production.

Walter will be conferred the said award in a function scheduled to be held at the Town Hall in the city on Tuesday November 6, informed Taccode.  Bishop Aloysius P D'Souza of Mangalore will grace the occasion whereas Sudhir P Ghate, chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt Ltd would preside over the function, he added.

The 'Pingara Sahitya Balaga' award presentation ceremony will be inaugurated by Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri. Whereas K Abhayachandra Jain, Moodbidri MLA and Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest of St Vincent Ferrer church, Valencia will be the chief guests.

Nakre George Castelino, the recipient of national-level ‘Best Teacher Award for the year 2006-07’ and Alfonso Franco, president of the DK unit of Bharat Seva Dal will be honoured at the same occasion. Magic show by Fr Ivan Madta and Kannada musical evening will be the special attraction of the day, he added.

Mamata J Rao and Ivan Rodrigues of Pingara were present at the press meet.

Mr. Walter, please accept my felicitations in connection with Pingara Rajotsava award. The Kannada community has proved beyond doubt their steadfast principle of tolerance, respect and love towards linguistic minorities, by awarding this prestigious award to a discerning person who has united all coastal Kannadigas together, that’s Mr. Walter Nandalike.

Now it’s the time to reciprocate and work together for the cause of Kannada. I am of the opinion the feeling of ‘Kannadiga’ itself is an antidote towards chronic disease like communalism, sectarian feelings etc. I hope in coming days you will be able to educate ‘Few of the Very Global personalities’, for whom the name Kannada itself is an allergy.

What makes Daiji special is not only the fact that is probably the most trustworthy news site in the district. Neither is it the fact that it has a huge audience worldwide that tunes in everyday. What has made it special are little things such as the articles on the underprivileged whom you have run campaigns for, asking your readers to donate generously (and who really haven't failed in doing so either). For that reason alone, I congratulale Walter for this wonderful achievement. This is only the beginning. I wish you and the entire team a bright future ahead. May God bless

To be a ‘journalist’ amidst the high tension gulf life needs lots of energy and inherent qualities. I know Mr.W.Nandalike since the birth of daijidubai.com and I have felt his passion and dedication towards this new version of media revolution. We both dreamt and moved towards common goal……but Walty raced ahead with his creative idea and media vision and left me by far behind in this exciting form of ‘journalism’!. I just admire and salute him.

I am fascinated by his personality and also by his name!!. His legendary sir name ‘Nandalike’ attracted my attention more than a decade ago and I must say he has revived remembrances of Kavi Muddanna of Nandalike by his deeds. Mr.Walter Nandalike fondly known as Walty by his admirers has been a true media revolutionary in this part of the world and he has through his media has supported and energized the Karnataka cultural activities in this part of the world by providing a grand platform to such voluntary performances by the talented Karnataka Expats.

I wish him more glory and fame and wish that he will be surely bestowed with Karnataka’s & our beloved countries highest official Awards in near future.

Walter Nandalike has already won the most coveted award anyone would ever love to win in this world - the Award of “LOVE FROM THE HEART” by winning the hearts of millions of families and people of the West Coast of Southern India, people living there as well as people spread all over the world but originating from the same place.

The PINGARA RAJYOTSAVA AWARD may look like a topping of the cake, but what makes it so significant is that it comes from the Kannada loving community of the state, thereby confirming that Thanks to Walter, Konkany too has gained enormous respect alongside Kannada from people of all sections of our great State of Karnataka. Thousands of talented children and even adults (both of Konkany, Tulu and even of Kannada origins) spread all over the world will be able to thank Walter and his brainchild Daijiworld for giving ample exposure to their talents and achievements that would have otherwise remained unnoticed by the society.

The greatest contribution of Walter’s Daijiworld was visible when recently when the little child Melissa was taken away by the Lord from this world just like He took away Prophet Elias in a Golden Chariot, it was the prompt appearance of hundreds of condolence messages and messages of support that gave enormous strength to her loving parents Michael and Nirmala to bear the loss of their loving child. Behind every successful man is his wife., so a word of Congratulations also to Mrs.Walter who along with the children have stood by Walter all through his hectic sleepless schedules day in and day out, day after day. Three Cheers to Walter and Family…
