Mangaluru: Bishop Dr Aloysius ordains six new Capuchin priests

Report: Fr Robin V D'Souza for Capuchins

Mangaluru, Apr 21: It was indeed an auspicious day for the Capuchins of Holy Trinity Province - Karnataka as six Capuchin deacons were ordained to the order of priesthood at Divine Mercy Retreat Centre, St Anne’s Friary, here on Thursday April 22, by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese.

The ordination ceremony began at 3.30 pm and was witnessed by a large number of priests, religious and faithful to pray for the newly ordained priests. The ordination rite was conducted by Fr Naveen Santhosh D'Souza.

The six newly ordained priests are:

Fr Rohan Lobo – Holy Family Church, Brahmavar – Udupi diocese
Fr Sharan Vincent Crasta – Our Lady of Dolor Church, Bela – Mangaluru diocese
Fr Stuwart Prajwal Fernandes – Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar – Mangaluru diocese
Fr Jawahar Jerry Cutinho – St Jude’s Church, Pakshikere – Mangaluru diocese
Fr Wilson Vijay Sequeira – Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Kuppepadavu – Mangaluru diocese
Fr William Vincent Albuquerque - St Francis Xavier Church, Ferar - Mangaluru diocese

After the holy Eucharist, a short felicitation programme was organized to welcome the new priests to the Holy Trinity Capuchin Province of Karnataka. During the felicitation programme, the provincial minister of Holy Trinity Capuchin Province – Karnataka Fr Joseph Dolphy Pais said that the priesthood is a wonderful gift that Jesus gave to the Church because of His wisdom and love.

"Our faith tells us that the priesthood involves not just a different set of functions, but indeed a brand new identity," he said. The provincial minister also thanked the parents and the families who had offered their sons to the service of the Lord. A special mention was made of the benefactors who contributed financially for the long years of studies.

The programme was compered by Fr Prakash Raymond Lobo. Refreshments were served to all after the meaningful event.

May God bless these six young Capachin priests who were recently ordained by the Bishop of Mangalore. What a fine achievement to watch from a distance and whisper a short prayer so that these six young men may be helped and protected by God so that they could serve the humanity thru all their future dedication towards serving God and the people.

Six young men must be well educated in various disciplines. These six young men have given up their worldly privileges and have joined the Capuchin order in order to serve the people thru their Faith and their love for God. It is a great sacrifice on the part of their family members because they have deprived all their material comforts and benefits and have consented to be devoted as Capuchin priests. In these difficult times, it is amazing to feel that these six priests and their families have jointly agreed to give unto God all that the world desires from them in the form of their faith and all their devotion.

May God bless them all and thru their dedication towards life, may this World be a better place to live and survive.

Bishop Aloysius and the vibrant Diocese of Mangalore has all the potentials to help these six new Capuchin priests to follow the pathway of charity and nobility in all their future endeavors. May God bless them all.
