Mangaluru, Jan 11: 'Konkani on the Rocks 2' held at St Agnes Special School grounds on Sunday, January 10 evening was a smash hit with a big crowd enjoying every moment of show.

Triad Creations in association with Band teetotalers had organised this unique Konkani rock show titled ‘Konkani on the Rocks-2’. The proceeds of the show goes to various charitable projects.

Rock songs were not new to Konkani. But all rock songs in a show, was something special. With the presence of big crowd and their participation, it is obvious that Konkani music is changing and is ready to embrace innovation. Sounds of heavy metals of this magnitude was never heard of or seen on Konkani stage. In short, rock in Konkani is not just an experiment but is here to stay.

In a short stage programme the show was inaugurated by Fr Cyprian D'Souza, Eric Ozario, Melwyn Peris and other dignitaries.

Eric Ozario said, "I have been saying for long that Konkani music should not remain stagnant but innovation should take place constantly. We are not sure all experiments will be successful or not. But it is our duty to keep on introducing new ideas. Some years back first edition of rock show was held and it was a fairly successful. That success has prompted the organisers to stage this show and there is a lot support for them.”

Melwyn Peris said, "I was very happy to see in the social media that this new concept has great following among younger generation. I wish Rock show the best in future."

Fr Cyprian D’Souza said, "I am very happy to see a huge crowd here which says that the rock show is liked in Konkani. I bless all the performers on this occasion."

Praveen Tauro from Daijiworld was also present on the stage. Sheldon Crasta compered.

Singers Elton Nazareth, Jacqueline Fernandes, Ashish Jason Palanna and Ria D'Souza sang the catchy numbers. 'Juliana' song sung by Elton was the biggest hit of the day for it is a very popular song and for Elton came out from the stage and sang with the crowd which allowed them to enjoy every bit of the song. Songs composed by Melwyn Peris, Eric Ozario, Lloyd Rego, Henry T D'Souza, Jerome D’Souza and others were sung. 'Tujya vengenth' is another song which was a hit. All the songs had rock in them except ‘Chedum Kiryanthlem' sung by Sanjay Rodrigues which remained almost original with not being modified much unlike other numbers.

Dilraj Rodrigues thanked the crowd while Jacqueline Fernandes briefed about the show and Teetotalers in English. Ria D'Souza also spoke about her experience with Teetotalers in English.

Roshan D'Souza, Angelore, Jeethan Carlo, Dilraj Rodrigues played guitars while Sanjay Rodrigues and Ivan Pereira played keyboard and drums respectively.

Roylin Correa a sound engineer from Mumbai had come specifically for the show for mixing. Sounds and Lights were handled by Chris electronics in collaboration with a specialist sound system from Manipal. A unique stage concept and design done by ‘Rectangle’ of Akaar group suited the theme of the occasion. Reona Pinto and group performed scintillating dance numbers.

Daijiworld was the media partner, Big FM the radio partner, PRO PIX the design and graphics partner and Rectangle was the stage partner for the event.
