Mangaluru, Dec 13: It was true Christmas joy in the lives of more than 600 orphan children from various orphanages as they sang and danced their hearts out and even received gifts during the Christmas celebration organized by Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) at Loyola hall, St Aloysius Pre University College, here on Saturday December 12.
After inaugurating the programme, Fr Santosh Kamath (SJ) hailed the service rendered by the organization to many orphan children over the years.
"In the Holy Bible when Noah was confused if the water has come down after the carnage, it was the crow which brought a twig and helped Noah to analyse the situation. In Latin it is called as Corvus Corwa. I have same vision for the organization. It is an appreciable fact that the members of the organization after giving their heart and soul in gulf are now serving the society," he said.
Later, MLA J R Lobo also graced the programme. He wished good luck to KORWA for their future endeavours.
"KORWA is an association formed by a group of people who have returned from the Gulf region. This association is for the welfare of gulf returnees and needy people in the homeland. After completing their education, they went abroad in search of jobs, and in order to give something back to society, they formed this organization. I call upon the other organizations to follow your footsteps," Lobo said.
The children from Infant Mary's Orphanage Centre, St Angela Home, Bejai, Prajna Counselling Centre, Jeevadhan, Gurpur - Kaikamba, St Aloysius Boys home, Kotekar and Bethram Formation House not only enjoyed the celebration but also performed dances and enacted meaningful skits on this happy occasion.
The star of the show was the little wonder, singer Tanush Raj, who has been selected for the finals of ‘Yede Tumbi Haaduvenu’ programme by Zee Kannada, and a skit and mimicry by Vismay Vinayak. He along with his troupe not only tickled them but mesmerised the children with his talent of mimicry.
Wonderful singing by Anita D'souza, Shilpa Cutinha, Rynel Sequeira was backed by the beautiful dance from Almirah Shireen, Priyanka D'souza and team Illusion.
President, Louis Lobo welcomed the gathering while Elias Sanctis rendered the vote of thanks. Vaibhav D'souza and Sushmitha compered the programme.
