Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School holds sports day

Mangaluru, Dec 1: The annual sports day programme of Lourdes Central School was inaugurated on Monday, November 30 at Mangala Stadium.

The sports meet was officially inaugurated by hoisting the school flag and singing the school anthem. March-past by the various groups of the school was a special highlight.The groups also performed the physical exercise accompanied by the beats of the school band.

 

 




























The chief guest of the ceremony, A Tharanatha Shetty, assistant manager of Corporation Bank in his inaugural address explained the importance of sports.

"Sports day is a good time for both students and the trainers. For students, its an opportunity to showcase their natural talents while for the trainers to pick the talents. Sports activities release mental pressure, improves ones personality and make one physically and mentally strong. I request all students to spend atleast 30-40 minutes daily for sports activities." Shetty said.

The programme was presided over by correspondent of the school Fr Wilson L Dsouza.

Fr Wilson in his address gave the call to participate in the true sportsmanship. He said "Winners win, winners lose, winners play. I call upon everyone to witness a healthy competetion with thrue sportsmanship. Sports is an integral education in itself. Through sports one can overcome nervousness and boost up team spirit", he added.

Vice principal of the school Belita Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering while convenor of the sports day Veerendra Alva rendered vote of thanks.

Deepa D'Souza compered the programme.

Principal of the school Fr Robert D'souza, former deputy mayor of Mangaluru city corporation Lancelot Pinto, executive engineer of MESCOM, Mangaluru were also present at the occasion.
