Udupi diocese gets two new priests; five Capuchin priests ordained in Chikkamagaluru

Udupi, Apr 29: Deacons Vijay D’souza and Royson Fernandes were ordained as priests for the Udupi diocese by bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on different days.

Deacon Royson Joel Fernandes was ordained at St Maria Goretti Church, Hirgan on Monday, April 27.

Deacon Vijay Joyson D'Souza was ordained at St John Bosco Church Kelmbet, Bola on Tuesday April 28.

Fr Stephen D’Souza conducted the ordination ceremony on both the days.

In a brief felicitation programme, Dr Gerald Lobo felicitated the newly-ordained priests on both the days.

Priests from the diocese and other dioceses took part in the ordination ceremony.

Fr Vijay D’souza and Fr Royson Joel Fernandes thanked everyone for their support.

Fr Royson Fernandes is the son of Richard and Jacintha Fernandes who belong to St Maria Goretti Church, Hirgan. He did his BSc from Bhuvanendra College, Karkala and then joined St Joseph Seminary in 2007. He served as regent in Dev Matha Church, Mogarnad, Mulky Church, Pavur Church, Cascia Church and the diaconate ministry in Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte.

Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza is the son of Joseph and Nathalia D’Souza, parishioners of St John Bosco Church, Kelmbet-Bola. He completed his BCom from St Mary’s College, Shirva, and joined St Joseph Seminary in 2007. He served as regent in Ujire Church, and the diaconate ministry at Stella Maris Church, Kalmady.

Koppa, Apr 29: It was yet another eventful and memorable day in the annals of the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, as five of its deacons ascended the altar of God as ordained priests.

The holy Eucharist and the liturgy of ordination was solemnised by Dr Thomasappa Anthonyswamy, the bishop of the diocese of Chikkamagaluru, who stressed on the aspect of the dignity of the Sacrament of Catholic priesthood and the value of being a priest after the example of Christ himself in the challenging world of today.

The ceremony was witnesses by a great number of priests, religious and the faithful.

The newly-ordained priests are Fr Salvador D'Cunha of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish, Koppa, Fr Andrew Jayaraj, St Joseph Cathedral parish, Chikkamagaluru, Fr Amar Lobo, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish, Koppa, Fr Naveen Sequeira, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish, Koppa, and Fr Paul Karun Mascarenhas, Our Lady of Victory's Parish, Balehonnur.

A facilitation was held after the ordination ceremony during which provincial Fr Joseph Dolphy Pais gratefully remembered the sacrifices made by the parents of the new priests and wished the new priests a bright future in their priestly mission.

He also thanked Fr Joseph Madtha, the parish priest of Koppa and all the parishioners for making the event a success.

Thereafter a sumptuous spread awaited all.

    It was a celebration not only for the newly ordained priests but for all who witnessed the graceful & grand event.
