Kuwait, Oct 20: Mangaloreans in Kuwait had a memorable day as they displayed their athletics skills on the field at the Silver Jubilee Athletic Meet organized by Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) at Keifan stadium recently. The event was open to all Mangaloreans living in Kuwait.

The event started at 8:30 am. Fr Noel D’ Almeida, the ex-Presidents of KCWA, Lawrence Pinto, Pascal Pinto, Rudy D’souza and Stephen Machado symbolically inaugurated the event by lighting the torch.

A total of 120 events such as 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, discus throw and others were organized in which 425 athletes took active part. Winners of each event were honored with gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates as well.

The concluding part of the event was tug of war which had 16 teams in men’s and 7 teams in women’s category. While Little Tuggers won the trophy in women’s category, the President’s VIII won the trophy in the men’s category.

Hempel Paints were the main sponsor of the event and ISSNAD and Future Communications were the co-sponsors.

The whole event was coordinated by Dr Manohar Prabhu, with the support of Navin Mascarenhas and Alex Rego.

All the KCWA committee members, both current and past, extended their support for the success of this event.

No doubt KCWA is a Model Association which proved by organizing beautifully and professionally an rare event in Kuwait. Excellent program set up – right from prayer to vote of thanks which consisting of inauguration, Athletic torch, presenting medals to the winners, welcoming and thanking the sponsors, announcements, informations through out the day was tremendous. ion of events nicely categorized, Every organizing member was busy with their own responsibility thus KCWA could accomplish the day before the schedule time successfully. All the ground assistance was provided including the First Aid. It was not so easy to handle more than 400 participants and equal number of spectators. More than 75 people with Navy Blue T Shirts– Management Committee & White T Shirts – support Committee ably handled this Athletic Meet towards success. Here is the note from everyone who witnessed this Athletic Meet –“ We want KCWA to organize this event every year”. So Anil Fernandes & Team of KCWA deserve our salutation. Well done KCWA.

A very successful event organized by KCWA for the Mangalorean community. Even though a lot of people travelled during Eid holidays, a record turnout of people was seen at the stadium. My salute to all those took active part in various track & field events and made it a grand success.
