Kundapur: Fire mishap in boat factory, loss estimated at crores

Kundapur, Aug 3: A large boat factory on Kundapur Church road caught fire on Saturday August 3, causing loss of several crores of rupees.

The boat factory belonging to Ramachandra Shiroorkar, situated at the end of Church road, was engaged in manufacture of night boats when the incident took place.

The work on manufacture of five boats was in progress and the workers were bringing down remaining thermocols from the ship when they observed smoke emitting out from within a boat whose work was completed.

The fire brigade was informed but by the time they arrived the roof of the boat was completely gutted.

The boat that caught fire was ready for sailing and it had cost Rs one crore for its manufacture.  

The boat belonged to a person from Ratnagiri.
