Friday resigns as Kenya rugby coach

Nairobi, August 1 (IANS): England international Mike Friday has resigned as Kenya's Rugby Sevens head coach.

Friday sent a letter to Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Wednesday saying he will not be able to continue with his stint, which expires in 2014, Xinhua reports.

"I have not taken this decision lightly. Kenya Sevens team are a fantastic group of players and it has been a privilege to have worked with them. They are precious assets that need to be given the support by Kenyan rugby in order to maximise their potentialy," said Friday in the letter to union chairman Mwangi Muthee.

Friday was appointed coach in May 2012, taking over from Kenyan Benjamin Ayimba. He led the team to one of its best performances in New Zealand in February during the World Series where Kenya wound up third, losing to England 19-24 in extra time.
