Moodbidri: Cattle theft - Vehicle falls into drain, traffickers escape

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (SP)

Moodbidri, Apr 25: A Maruti Swift car which was used by some miscreants for stealing and transporting cattle got stuck in a roadside drain at Sampige Cross near here on Wednesday April 24. The cattle thieves however, made good their escape.

Some people, who arrived in the said car, caught hold of a cow grazing by the roadside and stuffed it into the car. When they were trying to load another cow likewise, it escaped from them. By the time the locals were informed about the thieves and they came on the spot, the miscreants sped away in their car. When some youth in their motor bikes tried to stop the car at Murkot Palke, the accused increased the speed of their vehicle, and deviated from the course towards Kodyadka. Once they reached Guddeangady, they offloaded the cow and drove towards Sampige Cross. As the driver tried to drive the car speedily on a zigzag course, the vehicle hit a roadside tree before falling in the roadside drain.

Those in the car, who reportedly wielded lethal weapons, took to their heels, after abandoning the car there. The wind shield of the car has been broken. Leaflets seeking votes for the JDS candidate from Mangalore north assembly constituency were recovered from the car. A case was registered in Moodbidri police station.

The incident comes in the wake of an incident which occurred on March 28 this year, in which four cows valued at around Rs 60,000 were stolen from the cattle shed owned by Faustin Sequeira from Murkot Palke. Sequeira, who happens to be the general secretary of Raita Sangha’s Moodbidri regional unit, suffered heavy loss at one go. Taking pity at his plight, president of the unit, Dhanakeerti Balipa, had given him a cow from his cowshed. However, the thieves had stolen even this cow, within a few days.

In the past, complaints made to the police, petition handed over to minister, Suresh Kumar, during his visit to the town in 2011 by the Raita Sangha, and complaints made by Faustin Sequeira have failed to have any impact on the cattle thieves and traffickers, who continue to make merry. The locals expect the concerned to take strict action at least now, against the culprits.

ONLY THE SOLUTION IS TO AVOID ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING OF CATTLE'S IS TO BE LEGALIZE THE BEEF LIKE OTHER MEATS. THERE IS NOTHING PROBLEM TO LEGALIZE IT, SINCE THE INDIA HAS BECAME WORLDS BIGGEST EXPORTER OF BEEF. ALLOW TO OPEN AT LEAST ONE SLAUGHTER HOUSE IN EACH CITY'S. THEN THE RATE OF BEEF WILL BE REDUCED.

Whether the offloaded cow is alive? What will happen to this Maruti Swift car? Let the police auction this car (Hope this car also not stolen one!)and money may be utilized to buy some cows and build proper theft-proof shed and also appoint a night watch man if required. Hope this will give little justice to Mr. Faustin Sequeira.

    Also one sincere question.
When cow thieves are so much united, why can't be cow protectors?

In many places these cattle thieves come with swords and knives, threaten people and carry away cows from their sheds. They are keen on calves as this meat can easily be blended with Mutton. People do not complain to the authorities as they are scared of their lives. All of this happens in broad daylight.

People justify their habbit of eating meat by giving this reason.

Their argument does not hold good as the word "killing" is used only in respect of animals and not in respect of plants.

As the animals have brain, they suffer immense pain while killing and resist the violence.

All vegitarian items and milk comes under Satvik food and the meat under Thamasic category.

In view of the above, Mahaveera, Gauthama Budhdha and Jesus Christ have fobidden the killing of animals for human consumption.

In this Kaluyuga, the people may not listen to saner voices, but should atleast treat the animals ethically and humanly.

The term "Killing" is not used in respect of plants.

It is "plucking" of fruits and "harvesting" of grain.

Killing involves violence and immense pain to animals as they have brain.

The animals resist killing as there is violence.

Plants do not resist as they do not have brain and no violence is involved.

Look around you. The famous food chain is all about consumption for survival. Animals consume other animals to survive. Does not get any simpler than that!
We do believe that God created all living beings and we also believe that god gave us more intelligence than most other animals.
If indeed God did not want 'killing' I do believe we would not have seen this even in nature.
    Food for thought!

    Dear Lydia
The question is not who buys or eats beef, & I dint say atleast only he or she eats beef, even I know so called who are not supposed to eat it also enjoy it thats alltogather a diffrent chapter, i agree to it also, I just mentioned my opinion on your comment about you finding or doubting a fault with the victim than condemning the culprits whoever they are wetaher they took it to eat themselves or sell it to another Swami who may eat beef. JFYI, keeping dogs have not solved or prevented thefts in our society, there are hundred diffrent way for these people to get around it. Dogs may even bark if another dog passes by if the owner has to wake up for every bark of his best freind. Most of the catlle stealing happens in the day time that too when the owner leave their cattle out for free grazing, you cannot tie it 24/7 in your valut under the supervisions of dogs. I am telling this based on experience as even we rear cattle back home @ our village and are victims of them vanishing suddenly oneday not coming home after their usual free day. We had not 1 but 3 Dogs then.

India became the world's top exporter of beef in 2012 with Export earnings from bovine (beef and cattle) meat expected to touch Rs 18,000 crore in 2012-2013.

India will feed Beef to the whole world but not poor and Hungry Indians who cannot afford other meat.

I agree Cow is considered holy for our Hindu brothers/sisters and we respect the decision to ban its consumption in India

then why feed the Holy Cow to the whole world.

Beef Trading should be banned universally in India for all purpose.

To each unto his own. All these happen because the government has banned people from eating food of thier choice which they have been eating since ages. This is a democracy, not a country ruled by fanatics & dictators. Different religions practice different ways of life. None can enforce anything on anyone.
Oh yes I do agree stealing is not correct, but this may be averted if the government legalised beef. Why is the government openings its eyes only now when our constitution itself has given us the freedom of religion, right to food, freedom of speech, etc etc.

God has given variety of food to eat.

Why you should take the life of an animal just to satisfy your tastebuds.

Treat the cow as your mother as you have grown up drinking its milk.

When you can not create an animal you have no right to kill it.

We have common forefathers who have given the status of mother to cow due to its divinity.

Even jesus christ was born in cow shed and he has forebidden killing of animals by saying "Thou shall not kill".

By using the word 'killing' instead of 'murder', he has banned violence against all living beings.

Mr. Dayanand, with due respect, you say "When you can not create an animal you have no right to kill it."... well in that case lets all become vegans and stop cow slaughter, goat, sheep, pig, chicken, fish, and just become vagans. I promise I will become one, when we are able to stop all this. And noone except God created anything. So, killing plants and vegetables also does not come under our right. And yes Gos has given all of us a variety of food. Some like some things some dont. The choice is ours.
But yes I once again stress STEALING IS WRONG.

Lord Krishna says in Gita, that one can offer him "Patram, Pushpam, Phalam and Thoyam" ie., Leaf, Flower , Fruits and Water".

    Jesus has fobidden only killing.

Vegitarian food does not involve any killing.

So, vegitarian food is permitted as it is obvious that there is no violence in eating vegitarian food.

But, when you kill an animal having brain, it suffers lot of pain and while suffering it curses the killer.

Persons who eat meat have to suffer due to the curse of these dumb animals.

Edward C Maben, you are missing a point while being over-enthusiastic in condemning government ban. This a case of stealing a cow from somebody's house. This is the second time cows are stolen from the same house. This matter is serious. Nobody stops anybody from eating whatever he wants to eat. Even he has freedom to eat his own domestic animals if such action pleases him. These are milking cows not intended for slaughter. Ban is there on 'Trafficking' and illegal slaughtering but not on eating. Beef is available in the free market. Where is the ban on beef sale?

Dear Eskey, right said, its just the false propaganda these people try to market inrder to polorise vote bank and create a sence of insecurity that Govt is banning their food. Beef is so openly available in the market & in restaurants, but some only want free meals at the expense of other. Just look above for one Lydia Lobo's explanation or the Justification, can you believe it, its just looking for stone in the curd.If DoG was there then probably the mistake of the owner was he dint have a night watchman.

Only a owner who took so much pain/expenses to rare & upbring a fully grown catlle for whatever use of his may know the pain when he looses his herd in theft like this, not the one who pays 100 or 200 or whatever kg for the beef in KADRI market every sunday.

A farmer rears dogs for various purposes, theft is one of them. When a theft took place at his house once, should he not have been careful ? Who allows his property to be trespassed for a second time ?

If I appear to be searching a stone in the curd, you are accusing everybody except you to be waiting in the market for a product that
