Iran Urges US to Confirm Drone Capture

Dubai, Dec 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Iran has said the US should carefully review its drone records, following Washington's denial of Tehran's claims that it had captured one of them.

"Sooner or later, the Americans will have to confirm that it was their aircraft," spokesman of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Gen. Ramadan Sharif said in comments on Iranian state-owned Al-Alam TV channel.

The channel also aired a video featuring the unmanned device, reportedly brought down by Iranian forces.

Sharif said the seized ScanEagle, a small aircraft designed by Boeing, was collecting data over the Persian Gulf for several days, in violation of international airspace regulations.

White House spokesman Jay Carney earlier said that the US has "no evidence" to support Iran's claims.

US Navy officials said there was no record on lost unmanned vehicles.

Last month, a US Predator military surveillance drone came under fire from Iranian warplanes. The US said the aircraft was in international airspace, while Tehran said it had entered Iranian airspace.
