Rescue Team Reaches Mahi

Gurgaon, Jun 24 (PTI): After  eighty hours of relentless effort, the rescue team from the army, succeeded in reaching the 4-year-old Mahi child on Sunday morning. The health status of the child, who fell into a 68-feet-deep borewell in Manesar, is still unconfirmed.

Earlier, rescuers made a little headway on Saturday night as they finally pierced a hard rock in their effort to reach the  Mahi.

The hard rock was a major hurdle which the rescuers had been struggling to break for the last two days, Lt Colonel Ashwani Tyagi, who is heading the operation, said.

The slab was ocated in the horizontal tunnel between the borewell and the pit dug up to rescue the child.

However, the officer did not elaborate on how much more digging remained  to be done to reach her.

"We have to dig further to reach her...hard rocks are coming in the way...we are finding out ways to remove the gravel," Joint Commissioner of Police Anil Rao said.
"No time frame can be given at the moment," he said.

Earlier in the day, an official of the rescue team had said they were inches away from reaching the child.

"A narrow distance is left to reach the girl," the official had said.

The girl Mahi fell into the borewell at Kho village near Manesar while playing with her friends on June 20, her fourth birthday.

Oxygen is being constantly supplied to Mahi since the rescue operation began. Over 100 officials drawn from army, fire, police, Gurgaon Rapid Metrorail, health and revenue departments, and locals have been involved in drilling a pit parallel to the borewell.

Mr.Ranjan..read news article again..It is not 7 feet borewell..68 feet deep borewell! Our army could have done it within 24 hours,if there had not been hard rocks, and most important thing is that victim was a little 5years old girl..special care was taken by them. US military good at bombing through pilotless jet. They are very much scared about PATHANS..
