Charles John Menezes (99), born in Malpe, South Kanara, May 2, 1918, son of the late Albert and the late Pauline, husband of Iris (nee Castelino), farther of Pearl (Brian), Esther and Arnold (Catherine), grandfather of Julia, Allison, Mark, Dakota, Skyler, Maya, Adrian and Jessica, brother of Henry (Hilda), passed away on January, 13, 2018 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

Visitation at Meadowvale Cemetary on Friday, January 19 from 5 - 9 pm for viewing.
Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church, Brampton on Saturday, January 20 at 12 noon.
The reception will be at Meadowvale Cemetary afterwards.

Dear Aunty Iris, Esther, Arnold, Pearl and Family
Pat and I are really sad. We met Monsignor Shenoy at mass and we spoke of Uncle Charlie. Later on in the day Monsignor wrote that Uncle passed away. Both of us are really very sad. He was a wonderful person and we enjoyed every visit to your home. We loved the time we spent with him playing cards and chatting. We will miss him. We continue to keep all of you in our prayers. May He rest in peace in the loving arms of our beloved Lord Jesus.

Charlie Menezes - I used to affectionately call him U. Charlie. He was a down to earth human being; caring, loving, considerate, humble and with a sense of humour. He used to love to speak Konkani and Tulu. His knowledge of idioms and phrases in these languages was extraordinary.

When I landed in Canada on May 1st some years ago, my first social visit was to his house on May 2nd, his birthday. I'll never forget that.

His was a life truly well lived. May he rest in eternal peace.

Our heartfelt condolences to my sister Iris and her family - Pearl/Bryan, Arnold/Cathy and Esther and their children, on their unimaginable loss. Charles was indeed a great, generous and affectionate man with whom I had many many sessions on the telephone (and during stays at his house in Brampton- and our house in Ottawa) conversing in "shudh" Konkani (he had a great sense of humour and often used GSB Konkana accent of which he was a master), as well as in Tulu, over 45 years since we have lived in Ottawa. He is unforgettable and will never be forgotten; he was my longest surviving brother-in-law, just short of a century by a little over three months. His death came in the Ides of January, the same week as my brother Henry and his wife Rosy died nine years ago in Mississauga. I should beware the Ides of January too, as my birthday falls in that week of January!
